Synchrony VP, Senior Software Development Engineering Manager in Stamford, Connecticut

Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose:

The Vice President, Senior Software Development Engineering Manager thrives when leading a large team of engineers to architect, design, build and test mission critical applications across all layers of the tech stack. To be successful in this role, deep expertise in software engineering, microservice architecture, mission critical application designs and the ability to influence and manage a large team of software engineers are musts. This leader will be responsible for the engineering delivery of the Synapps credit underwriting system at Synchrony.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage a large team of software engineers, you will manage managers

  • Influence and lead many agile trains teams through all phases of the Agile development life cycle through Large Solution SAFE

  • Implement new technologies and assist developers as they migrate to new technologies

  • Establish application architecture standards and best practices for java microservices

  • Experience in backends like PCF, Cloud Native Application Architecture, Microservices ecosystem, J2EE, Spring Java, and RESTful API's are a must.

  • Influence and collaborate with software developers, product managers, application architects, and customer application experts to create applications.

  • Mentor and influence all levels of the team: in this role, you will have the opportunity to influence up and down the chain of command

  • Ensure compliance with architecture, security and technology standards set by Synchrony Financial

  • Assist in crafting and maintaining the future state technology architectural strategy, along with our application modernization and migration roadmap.

  • Ensure application code quality through development, test, and QA

  • Participate in addressing root cause analyses, incident reports and provide direction in problem resolution

  • Ability to analyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, and implement fixes

  • Passionate about the latest technologies, open source projects and languages;

  • Provide 24x7 on-call support periodically throughout the year

  • Identify ways to increase efficiency and improve system performance * Work with third party

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience with software engineering

  • A minimum of 3 years of people management experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of credit underwriting technology experience

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience in the synapps engineering environment

  • Solid people management skills - providing direction, monitoring performance, motivating staff and building a positive working environment

  • Developing team's skills and capabilities to meet the evolving needs of the organization, as well as building on existing recruiting capabilities to address new needs and skills gaps.

  • Experience with continuous integration environments

  • Experience with writing unit, integration, and UI test cases

  • Strong experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry

  • Experience using splunk for production support

  • Familiarity with JSON, REST and XML based web services

  • Excellence in technical communication with technical and non-technical peers

  • Strong cross-functional team player with the ability to work seamlessly across a matrix organization and partner with global development companies

  • Desire to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment

  • Experience developing and supporting financial/banking applications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to influence clients, team members, management and external groups

  • Strong attention to detail in a team environment

  • Strong oral and written communication, analytical and problem solving skills

  • Ability to analyze, use structured problem solving and available tools to troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, action plans, impact and resolution options

Grade/Level: 14

The salary range for this position is 170,000.00 - 290,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months' time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months' time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don't meet the time in position or performance expectations).
