Job Description

Operates and maintains high pressure steam boilers, emergency generators, chillers, cooling towers, cogeneration and auxiliary equipment including the electrical interface with the Energy Center. Inspects all Energy Center equipment and makes repairs as required. Tests and submits reports documenting all established parameters associated with all Energy Center equipment (both mechanical and chemical.)

Job Responsibility

1.Operate and maintain heating, cooling, ventilation and power generation and any other auxiliary equipment associated with the power plant.

2.Observe various meters and gauges and take appropriate action for safe operation.

3.Start, stop, and switch over boilers as appropriate.

4.Clean and repair boilers, blow tubes and discharge sediment, regulate feed water and condensation pumps, lubricate pump equipment.

5.Follow preventive maintenance schedule.

6.Perform work such as repack valves as needed, change piping, clean and paint in boiler room as needed, lubricate boiler compressors, pumps and related parts regularly.

7.Clean inside of boiler walls, as needed.

8.Repair and/or replace broken or worn parts, valves, meters and levels, etc.

9.Keep log on each boiler and cooling tower water samples.

10.Assign proper chemical treatment to boiling and cooling waters.

11.Report major repair needs and unsafe conditions to Utilities Manager.

12.Keep boiler room clean and orderly.

13.Check temperature and pressure gauges periodically.

14.Assist in maintaining and repairing HVAC controls and associated equipment to maximize efficiency levels in all environmentally controlled areas.

15.Perform urgent corrective routine and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems required.

16.Maintain legible records, reports, logs, statistics, and files as required.

17.Perform other duties as directed by the Utilities Manager and or other Management.

18.Performs related duties as required.

Physical Demands: Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to lift and move heavy materials and equipment weighing approximately 100lbs.

Job Qualification

1.High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

2.Minimum of three (3) years as an Engineer with experience in maintenance and repair of HVAC high-pressure equipment including centrifugal refrigeration units, cooling towers, pumps, motors and air handling.

  • NY City Stationary Engineer License, required.

  • NY City Refrigeration License - Unlimited Capacity, required.

  • NY City Fire Department Certificates of Fitness: A-35, C-42, F-60, G-60, G-71, S-12, S-13, S-95.

  • Read, write and speak English to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions, prepares forms and work logs.

The salary range for this position is $62.54-$67.82/hour
