Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The Athletic Trainer for the University of Wisconsin ( UW ) Stevens Point Athletics and Sports Medicine Manager will function as part of an interdisciplinary team, including coaches, physicians, athletes, and rehabilitation staff to prevent injuries, provide post injury management and rehabilitation of injuries, and conduct injury prevention programs for intercollegiate athletes and other appropriate patient populations under the supervision of a consulting physician.

The Athletic Trainer-UW Stevens Point may also work as part of Marshfield Clinic Health Systems team of Licensed Athletic Trainers to provide Athletic Training services to other contacted entities, including secondary schools, businesses, club sports teams, and various recreational camps.

The sport assignments for this position are Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Wrestling, and Track and Field.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree from an athletic training education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), or Bachelor’s degree in a related field and equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required: none

Preferred/Optional: Master’s Degree Athletic Training or related field. Previous experience as a Licensed Athletic Trainer providing service to intercollegiate athletes, clinical education supervision of athletic training students in a CAATE accredited ATEP.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) awarded by the American heart association within 2 weeks of hire. Certification as an Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification. Licensed as an Athletic Trainer by the State of Wisconsin. Valid State of Wisconsin driver’s license with an acceptable record.

Preferred/Optional: National Academy of Sports Medicine Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES). Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES). National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)

Work Schedule

Variable schedule. Includes some nights and weekends. Typical workday is 10am-6pm M-F. Occasional overnight trips with athletic teams.
