Hospice Of San Joaquin Housekeeper - Full-Time in Stockton, California

Hospice of San Joaquin  is the oldest not-for-profit hospice of 40 years.  We serve all of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties.  We are committed to continue to be the leader in ensuring quality of the journey, from serious illness through end of life and to honor our mission by honoring life by ensuring patients and their Caregivers are the focus of everything we do.  We are seeking a Dynamic, self-motivated Housekeeper who thrives in a fast paced environment and to support our mission.  This is a Full-Time position.

 

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY: The Housekeeper is responsible for the general cleanliness of the following areas: Patient care areas, restrooms, laundry room, Living room, and all other areas requiring housekeeping services. The routine work of this employee, consists of sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, wiping, and surface cleaning all floors, walls, ceilings, sinks, mirrors, showers, commodes, and windows. Performs trash removal. Performs terminal cleaning of patients’ rooms as required. Moving of furniture and other heavy equipment is accomplished as directed. Completes established competencies for the position within a designated period of time.

 

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities 1. Responsible for executing work under the direction of the Hospice House Director and the requests of the nursing staff, in emergency situations. 2. Responsible for the appearance and cleaning of Hospice House interior throughout. 3. Constant alertness to needed repairs and make alerting Hospice House Director of issues. 4. Abide by the cleaning procedures. 5. Subject to the emergency call, during off-duty hours. 6. Handles appliances, equipment, and cleaning chemicals in a safe manner. 7. Responsible for the thorough cleaning of patient rooms (terminal clean), after patient discharge. 8. Responsible for the organization of equipment, and supplies, in housekeeping closets. 9. Responsible for the proper, use care, and maintenance of all supplies and equipment used in performing housekeeping duties. 10. Responsible for choosing the correct cleaning agent for each job. 11. Responsible for knowing MSDS precautions while using cleaning agents. 12. Responsible for keeping all containers labeled. 13. Responsible for responding to potential hazards and spills. 14. Perform all other duties related to this position. 15. Preform laundry service daily – responsible for maintaining inventory of laundry supplies and notifying Director of Hospice House of need for supplies. 16. Follow all Hospice of San Joaquin policies. 17. Washes dishes, and cleans the kitchen; upon charge nurse's request. 18. Pickup and delivery services. May be asked to pick up medications, groceries, or supplies. 19. Responsible for adhering to health and safety regulations 20. Cleans med room with RN supervision. 21. Companionship for patients at the request of the RN on duty. 22. Documents any communication with the RN on duty related to patients. 23. Adheres to call Hospice of San Joaquin policies, and procedures, including following Hospice of San Joaquin infection control procedures and the code of ethics. 24. Other assignments may be appropriate.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS 1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. A least one year successful employment experience. 3. Has had work or life experience as a homemaker. 4. At least eighteen years of age. 5. Successfully completes the HSJ Homemaker test with 75% or greater score. 6. Ability to read, write and follow written instructions and document care given. 7. Empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and the impaired. 8. Understands hospice philosophy, and the care of terminally ill, and accepts death and dying. 9. Must be a licensed driver with a vehicle that is insured in accordance with CA. 10. Must be familiar with the concept of self-care. 11. Value being a team player, with good communication skills.

Job Limitations The homemaker will not function in any manner viewed as the practice of nursing according to the Nurse practice Act. Specifically the homemaker will not administer mediations, take MD orders, or perform procedures requiring the training knowledge and skill of a licensed nurse, such as sterile techniques. The homemaker will not be involved in providing any direct health care to the patient, nor give medical advice, or suggestions.
