The 3rd Judicial District Court Administration has an immediate opening for Judicial Specialist 2 located in the Buena Vista Clerk’s office in Buena Vista County. An internal candidate may be hired at his or her current classification, e.g. Judicial Specialist 3 or 4.

The starting salary for new State employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. The starting pay for this position is $18.59 hourly / $1,487.20 bi-weekly. Adjustments may be made if the successful applicant has relevant experience.

Location: Buena Vista County, Storm Lake, Iowa

Hours:Monday – Friday 8:00A – 4:30P

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist parties, attorneys, and interpreters with court needs

  • Assist Judges in a busy court setting

  • Follow appropriate processes of the Electronic Data Management System (EDMS)

  • Review filings and manage queues

  • Case scheduling

  • Maintain and preserve exhibits

  • Distribute notices, orders, rulings and trial motions to attorneys, litigants and others as needed

  • Case management duties

  • Monitor Judges’ queues

  • Manage check in process for court

  • Travel may be required

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and two (2) years of successful completion of accredited post high school education in business, paralegal, computer, legal assistant or related program.

  • Two (2) years of professional office experience in business, court or legal work or a related area with one (1) year of the experience involving customer service. At the discretion of the appointing authority additional years of experience may be substituted for the required post high school education.

OR, the successful completion of additional years of education (i.e., Bachelor’s Degree) may be substituted for years of experience on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience. Education cannot be substituted for customer service experience.
