State of Massachusetts Program Coordinator - Special Ops in Stow, Massachusetts

The Program Coordinator is responsible for all Special Operations vehicles, equipment, and technicians. Special Operations technicians are assigned to one of the three teams, north, south, and west, with equipment housed in each region. This is a part-time contract position with no benefits. Workdays will vary from week to week and may involve calls on weekends, nights, and holidays. This position requires a minimum of 1 day a week to be physically onsite in Stow. There may be sporadic needs to be at other DFS locations and any other community in the Commonwealth. The job allows for some work to be done by telework. Duties include: Responsible for the maintenance, supplies and upkeep of the Special Operations vehicles, which include, the Incident Support Units, a state-of-the-art vehicle equipped to respond to any type of emergency or disaster; the Rehabilitation Units, designed to provide a variety of services to assist in the rehabilitation of incident response staff at the scene of an emergency; as well as many other support trailers. Provides supervision, leadership, mentoring and constant communication to all Assistant Coordinators and Team Leaders within Special Operations. Coordinates the technicians who are responsible for, but not limited to making weekly checks on all equipment; driving the vehicles in response to an emergency; and taking the vehicles to scheduled events, twenty-four hours a day, seven days per week. Coordinates the UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) program staff and equipment. Supervises all operators who are responsible for, but not limited to training, operating the aircraft in response to an emergency, and taking the vehicles to scheduled events, twenty-four hours a day, seven days per week. Responsible for Special Operations databases used for operations, training, maintenance and repair. Schedules the Special Operations vehicles, equipment, and technicians for planned events. Works with DFS Fleet Manager on scheduling of service and repairs, completes documentation and paperwork for all incidents. Coordinates the ordering of supplies and equipment needed to facilitate responses for emergencies and planned events. Responsible for ensuring that all Special Operations technicians remain current on all training required by the division, DFS and the Commonwealth. Provides the Special Operations Deputy Director with an annual operating budget draft, as well as capital, midyear and grants. Oversees divisions assets, physical inventory tracking, asset additions and surplus. Any other administrative or operational tasks and projects as assigned by the Deputy Director. /All persons holding a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and who perform duties requiring a CDL for the Department of Fire Services, whether temporarily or permanently, at any time will be required to undergo controlled substances and at our discretion, alcohol testing prior to employment and will be subject to further testing throughout their period of employment./ * Minimum Qualifications: * High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) * Five years of experience as a DFS Employee, a firefighter, MA Hazardous Materials Technician, a Commercial Driver, Public Safety Communications, or in a fire service leadership position Specialty Requirement: Possession of a valid driver’s license * Preferred Qualifications: * At least 3 years’ experience working within DFS Special Operations * Fire Instructor I certification * Must have superior interpersonal skills * Must be able to use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint * Must be well organized and a team player * Must have a demonstrated work record to support the skills required * Ability to solve complex problems and make decisions * Able to accomplish assigned work with little or no supervision * Certification in appropriate field: UAS Part 107 Drone Pilot, Commercial Driver’s License, Communications Unit Leader, Communications Unit Technician An Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer.
