Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of Position
This group develops and integrates the Measurement and Inspection systems that enable Global Manufacturing to characterize and verify compliance of products manufactured and sold to our customers.
This position uses computer science and software engineering principles to support Global initiatives in the development and sustainment of measurement platforms. The engineer needs strong technical curiosity across many technologies, the desire to learn new skills, and the desire to work with others for the progress of the business. As part of a global team, this position provides integrated measurement solutions to Corning’s Optical Connectivity business to deliver best-in-class products to our customers.
Day to Day Responsibilities
Work closely with team members and stakeholders to define, develop, and implement product measurement, instrumentation, and data management systems for a global production environment.
Use proven software development methodologies and support other software engineers in use of the same.
Develop and support measurement system software and interfaces for both front-end and back-end systems.
Work with and support global resources, including IT Security, to maintain the security conformance of measurement and test systems in the production environment.
Provide troubleshooting support for equipment and process issues during equipment installation and start-up phases, identify root cause, and implement corrective actions.
Train engineering, maintenance, and operations resources to use and maintain measurement systems.
Leverage external suppliers with key technologies or systems integration expertise to develop, procure, build, and install test applications in measurement platforms.
Assure quality and repeatability of processes and measurement systems software.
Visibly support the establishment and maintenance of a safe work environment.
Travel Requirements:
0-25% travel domestic and international (North America, Europe, China)
Experiences/Education - Required
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Computer Systems, or Computer Science
6+ years of work experience in systems development, test equipment integration and/or software development.
Strong English and Polish written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently without close supervision.
Strong time management skills to be able to manage multiple projects and tasks in parallel.
Strong initiative and self-motivated.Ambition and ability to independently fill gaps in knowledge and expertise through self-guided learning.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Experience with manufacturing test systems and/or instrumentation.
Experience with computer-based measurement equipment setup and support.
Knowledge and experience in C# software development for Windows based systems.
Experience in client/server system development in an Oracle or SQL Server environment.
Firm understanding of Oracle or SQL Server relational databases, their use, and SQL language elements.
Experiences/Education - Desired
Working knowledge of test equipment used to characterize various fiber optic assemblies. This can include but is not limited to – equipment capable of measuring optical power loss, attenuation, length (OTDR), interferometers, and microscopy (end-face inspection) equipment.
Working knowledge and experience in LabVIEW.
Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in machine learning, such as Python and familiarity with deep learning architectures.
Experience in the use of Source Code Control systems, particularly Git repositories.
Experience working within a global team of developers on a single source code project.
Experience in RS232/USB/GPIB/Ethernet interfacing to data acquisition hardware.
Experience in Optical Communication product test methods, characteristics, and data acquisition hardware.
Experience in Manufacturing Execution Systems.
Experience with early-stage design and development.
Demonstrated project management experience.
