Sylvan Learning Summer in Schools - Sylvan Tutor in Valley Glen, California
Overview: Sylvan Learning, the industry leader in supplemental education, is seeking dedicated Tutors to join our team in the Los Angeles area to provide tutoring on school sites. The majority of this tutoring will occur at local elementary schools providing essential reading and math tutoring. Locations: We have participating schools in the Van Nuys, Valley Glen, Sherman Oaks, and San Fernando Valley areas. You will be hosted by the Sylvan Learning Center in Sherman Oaks. Duration: In Person Sylvan Tutors can expect to work during the school year and on any summer contracts. Compensation: - Training rate: $17/hour (10-16 hours) - Daily rates for contracts based on 2, 3, and 4 hour contracts. (includes hourly rate ($20) and stipends for driving) Bonus ($400) for teachers who are able to complete ALL days. (Attendance Bonus) Schedule: - Tutors need to be available from 8:00am-1:00pm during the summer. Afternoon hours may be coming soon (1-6pm). - Tutoring will occur between 8:30 am and 12:45 PM. Tutors are required to arrive 30-minutes before their scheduled tutoring, at 8am, to set up and stay after until 1pm for clean up and notes. - Start date: June 18, 2024 (Training at beginning of June) - End date: July 19th (Renewal in fall for teachers who would like to stay contracted) - About 10 hours of training and preparation. Current Applicants need to be available on Monday - Friday Responsibilities: - Deliver guided, scripted curriculum to groups of up to 8 students on local school campuses within a 10-mile radius of the Sylvan Hub Location. - Set up and manage the learning environment, utilizing Sylvan's proven programs. - Motivate students with resources from our on-site toy store. - Collaborate with School teachers, Program Managers, and Directors to ensure smooth program execution. - Attend online training provided by Sylvan and participate in shadowing experiences. Qualifications & Requirements: - Associate's Degree or 2-years college completion toward 4-year degree required - Previous teaching or tutoring experience is preferred. - Strong organizational and time management skills. - Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. - Must have reliable transportation. - Must obtain a TB clearance and complete a livescan background check Additional Information: - Training provided by Sylvan. - Sessions held on local school campuses. - Highly encouraged to be available for contract renewal in the fall. - Opportunities for professional development and growth as well as additional tutoring shifts in our Sylvan Learning Centers.
