The Alexa Smart Home Cameras team is seeking an experienced backend software development engineer. The ideal candidate is an innovative self-starter who is looking for an opportunity to contribute building highly scalable systems for IoT space.
This is an early stage initiative with a fast paced, highly collaborative start up like environment inside . You will build scalable solutions incorporating cutting edge big data, smart home devices and cloud services.
You will be successful if you are flexible and entrepreneurial, comfortable operating with ambiguity and willing to develop quick proof of concepts. You are excited to do whatever it takes to make this new product successful and seeking an opportunity to grow as a technical leader. You are a true owner, you are passionate about the potential customer and societal impact and will operate at all levels, diving deep into the details while providing strategic inputs to creating solutions that are robust and deliver experiences that delight customers.
Key job responsibilities
Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative products and services to market.
Design and build innovative technologies in a large distributed computing environment and help lead fundamental changes in the industry.
Build and maintain distributed video streaming systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low cost, and easy to manage/use.
Design and code the right solutions starting with broadly defined problems.
Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software.
About the team
Alexa Smart Home Cameras team builds features and APIs for Alexa that allows her to have a sense of sight, voice, and presence anywhere, anytime. Our customers are camera device manufacturers, developers, and end-customers. Our technology solutions span ML/AI, media streaming, real-time communication, app development.
Basic Qualifications
3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
