Mercedes Benz Research Development North America Engineer, Powertrain Software Coordination in Sunnyvale, Michigan

Mercedes-Benz Research and Development North America, Inc. has the following position available in Farmington Hills, MI:

Engineer, Powertrain Software Coordination (CIPVS): Responsible for automotive software project planning and support: maintain, and execute a timeline in close collaboration with RD Germany, RD AMG, Certification, RD USA, Suppliers and Mercedes-Benz production plants worldwide. Synchronize Software releases with other powertrain controllers such as engine, CPC, transmission, etc. Provide input to develop a software roll-out plan to support the powertrain projects according to the Mercedes-Benz Development System (MDS). Support software development activities throughout a V-Cycle. Plan and track software release implementations. Ensure correct documentation for all production trial builds. Ensure information flow from all stakeholders (e.g., calibration, car line, certification group, etc.) as required. Maintain detailed documentation in various Mercedes-Benz specific tools, e.g., NCM, ACM and Dialog. Monitor and document software/data changes. Perform Flash test, basic software checks and release the software for series production. Support Testing-V activities in collaboration with various stakeholders. Coordinate the change management process of software and dataset updates. Support vehicle validation activities and support other testing activities, e.g., HIL. Identify, maintain, and communicate all faults seen during the SW development and testing. Work with the Powertrain Project and other groups to determine the number of releases, change content, and deadlines. Think outside of the box to create release scenarios and analyze their impacts.

Minimum Requirements: Master of Science or foreign degree equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, plus one (1) year of experience in the job offered, or in a related occupation.  

Special Requirements: Education or experience must include:  

  1. Product development lifecycle - from product design and issue resolution to product launches;
  2. Vehicle network topologies and technologies (e.g., CAN, Flex Ray);
  3. Variant coding;
  4. System engineering, product evaluation, statistical analysis, vehicle integration;
  5. Project management skills including scheduling, defining critical paths, analyzing trade-offs, and creating recovery plans;
  6. Quality tools and best practices including Key Performance Metrics (KPI), ISO standards;
  7. Project management tools including Gantt Charts and Project Tracking.
