American Express National Bank (AENB) is American Express’ chartered national bank. Headquartered in Utah, AENB is the single largest entity within American Express’ business, currently representing more than 50 percent of the company’s Card Member Spending, nearly 90 percent of its lending, and more than 60 percent its of revenues.

American Express National Bank provides American Express’ customers with access to consistent payments, financing, and savings products in three ways, including:

Colleagues across American Express’ key business units (known as “affiliates”) use their experience and skills to support AENB in executing on its strategy. In addition, many of American Express’ executives also serve as officers of AENB. AENB is governed by its own Board of Directors. It is regulated, supervised, and examined by several regulatory agencies, including the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for wide-ranging safety and soundness and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) for adherence to federal consumer financial laws. All AENB colleagues, officers, and affiliates have a long-standing commitment to driving strong and standardized risk management practices in accordance with the OCC’s Heightened Standards guidelines.

The Enterprise Control Management Utility within AENB operates as a Center of Excellence to serve as a central support hub for all first-line control management teams throughout the enterprise and be a key connection point with the second-line GRC teams.

The Director of BU Control Management Training will lead the design, development, and delivery of 1st Line of Defense (1LoD) Business Unit Control Manager (BUCM) training programs aimed at enhancing knowledge, skills, and operational risk management capabilities within the organization.

This role will ensure that training programs are aligned with regulatory requirements and organizational objectives, driving continuous improvement and effectiveness in training delivery across the 1LoD.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead the design, development, and administration of comprehensive 1LoD training programs and initiatives aligned with Operational Risk Management objectives.

  • Establish processes to monitor and integrate regulatory changes into the 1LoD training materials, ensuring that all updates are effectively communicated and incorporated into training programs across BUs and LoDs.

  • Drive continuous improvement in 1LoD training compliance and effectiveness by leveraging innovative tools, techniques, and feedback mechanisms.

  • Assess the effectiveness of training programs and make adjustments to improve outcomes continually.

  • Act as a key leader in sharing insights, best practices, themes, and techniques across the enterprise to foster a risk-aware culture.

  • Lead and mentor a team responsible for delivering training programs, ensuring alignment with broader organizational objectives.

  • Engage with senior leadership to ensure that training strategies are aligned with overall organizational goals and risk management strategies.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in developing and delivering training programs within a financial services context.

  • Strong background in risk management or operational context training.

  • Deep understanding of relevant regulations and proven success in ensuring compliance within a training environment.

  • Proven ability to drive continuous improvement in training compliance and effectiveness, utilizing innovative methods.

  • Excellent communicator and collaborator across a matrix organization, with a strong ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to identify mission-critical areas in training and prioritize work accordingly.

  • Demonstrated track record in driving transformation and change across a global organization.

  • Experience leading a team, preferably in a global or cross-functional context.

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Strong consultation, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills; ability to understand complex challenges and linkages and articulate them into actionable plans.

  • Experience in designing and implementing training programs focused on risk management topics.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
