Microsoft Corporation Electrical Engineer in Sydney, Australia

As a CO+I Electrical Engineer , you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.

Responsibilities

  • A strong desire and capability to learn, grow, and develop new skills

  • Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspect of data center activities

  • Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.

  • Understand the design and functionality of your datacenter

  • Support 24x7x365 on-site datacenters operations and electrical infrastructure

  • Act as the technical authority for on-site operations related to a large-scale mission critical electrical system, design, and functionality

  • Establish and coordinate maintenance and safety procedures, maintaining highly redundant electrical designs

  • Managing the electrical infrastructures throughout datacenter campus ranging from a single large capacity facility, to several smaller ones

  • Provide technical leadership to optimise performance of assets and systems during handover and operational phases

  • Manage permitting and regulatory compliance, ensuring operational practises comply with all relevant standards

  • Develop, review High Voltage Installation Safety Management Plan’s and Operating Agreements with supply authority’s

  • Provide continual improvement to High Voltage infrastructure by collaborating with energy, design, commissioning, and construction teams

  • Be the point of contact and liaise with network supply authorities for planned and unplanned works to the site interface point.

  • Investigate operations, asset performance and risk reduction, related to incidents or other related issues and develop solutions

  • Lead the planning and implementation of all HV, MV & LV related works including Outage planning, operations, maintenance, isolations and switching

  • Prepare, review, approve operating procedures (MOP’s, SOP’s, EOP’s, Switching instructions and isolation procedures)

  • Mentor and develop personnel in HV systems and the safe application of High Voltage practises

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Relevant trade qualifications with minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role

  • In depth knowledge of current legislation and standards applicable to HV assets and associated infrastructure

  • Demonstrated exceptional knowledge of electrical infrastructure, including high voltage networks up to 132kV

  • Extensive HV substation management/switching experience up to 132kV

  • Sound technical knowledge of HV infrastructure including Transformers, switchgear, switchboards, RMU’s, DC systems, protection, SCADA + earthing systems

  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships with various internal/external stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, influence and work with people from different backgrounds, resolve differences and achieve positive outcomes in a professional and constructive manner

  • Demonstrated strong operational and maintenance planning knowledge and experience across HV systems

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of Australian Citizenship to meet federal government security requirements.

  • NV1/2, PV Clearance Assessment: This position may require an enhanced background check conducted through the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency.

While not required, we also look for the following Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience.
