Amazon Engineering Manager, AWS Infrastructure in Sydney, Australia

Do you have experience planning, executing, managing and delivering small to medium complex projects? Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the leading cloud provider, providing virtualised infrastructure, storage, networking, messaging, and many other services to customers globally. AWS runs a globally distributed environment, operating at massive levels AWS’s multi-tenant infrastructure.

We are currently expanding our infrastructure management team and are looking for proven technology managers with experience in people management, strong technical acumen, and the vision to take Data Center Operations to the next level.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in design reviews to identify and mitigate operational risk. You work closely with Software Development and Site-Reliability teams to improve the change management lifecycle.

  • Drive teams to improve operational efficiency for all services through root-cause and trend analysis through development of SLA, metrics, monitors, procedures, tools, and documentation.

  • Work directly with hardware design teams to collaborate on hardware issues discovered in the fleet.

  • Draft strategies that adapt and scale the business for an exponentially-growing customer-base.

  • Play a significant role in hiring, developing, and promoting of engineers of varying technical levels and backgrounds.

About the team

We are experiencing rapid growth, therefore your onboarding will be dynamic in nature, where you will gain diverse experience working in new and established AWS data centre's. These future Amazonians will rotate through various AWS locations to complete training as part of their onboarding to prepare for deployment in a data centre region. This training will be completed over a duration of 6-12 months. Once training is completed, individuals will be relocated to the permanent location.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachlelor's Degree in I.T related field (e.g. Information Systems, I.T Management, Systems Engineering, Computer Science), or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience managing system or software development teams.

  • 5+ years of experience developing project schedules, charters, and execution plans.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.

  • Project Management experience leveraging AGILE, SCRUM, KANBAN, or KAIZEN.

  • Experience hiring, recruiting, developing and promoting Technical Contributors and Engineers.

  • Experience scripting in one or more language (e.g. Bash, Python, Perl, Ruby).
