ProMedica Health System Mental Health Professional - Inpatient Psych - Full Time - Nights in Sylvania, Ohio

Position Summary:

A Mental Health Professional is an individual who is trained to function under nursing supervision and assist the patient in meeting basic human needs. The role is designated as unlicensed assisted personnel. Under supervision, provides to individual groups, care requiring the application of basic knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, environmental safety, spiritual, and social skills. Care includes physical observation and data collection provision of direct patient care, and collaboration in implementation of plans of care. Care of client takes into consideration their development capabilities and physiologic processes. Care is provided in collaboration with the therapies of other health care disciplines. Assures patient/significant other, Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare, or guardian is informed regarding plans of care.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise

  1. 1.Contributes to the observation, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care assigned patients.

  2. To be knowledgeable to patient issues and to be respectful of their rights.

  3. Collects patient information and health data from the patient and others. Data collection includes documentation of the biophysical, psychosocial, cognitive, and environmental factors. This information is then appropriately documented.

  4. Contributes to the identification of developmental and life cycle issues. At admission and for the duration of the patient stay, documents the health education, environmental, and discharge needs of the patient. Considers self-care factors, educational factors, and discharge planning factors.

  5. Identifies the patient’s beliefs, culture, religious and socio-economic status.

  6. Recognizes routine and urgent patient needs.

  7. Initiates actions to address patient needs and notifies the RN. Perform safely in urgent and emergency situations.

  8. Collaborates with the RN and other members of the health care team toward planning of patient care and identification of discharge needs. Contributes to the plan of care.

  9. Prioritizes and implements the plan of care as delegated by the RN and documents accordingly.

  10. Documentation of patient/significant other being involved in care.

  11. Contributes to the evaluation of patient progress toward identified goals in the plan of care; and in collaboration with RN and other staff, contributes to any revisions/updates to the plan of care. Guidelines are adhered to regarding documentation of ongoing evaluations and interventions with patients.

  12. Organizes care based upon delegated activities received from PCS and RN.

  13. Appropriate interventions/treatments as delegated by the RN and documented.

  14. Seclusion/Restraints – proper selection and documentation of use – care of patient in seclusion or restraints reflects current policy.

  15. Uses positive therapeutic interpersonal skills in identifying and meeting psychosocial needs of the patient and the family.

  16. Provides basic instruction to patient, family, and significant other, as delegated by the RN. Provides educational instruction in specific knowledge skills needed to meet ongoing psychosocial healthcare needs.

  17. Provides facilitation/co-facilitation of psychoeducational groups and documents outcome.

  18. Delivers patient focused care through practice, behaviors, and attitude. Displays positive responses to negative situations. Understands and identifies cultural/personal values of patients/families. Promotes relationships of trust/respect.

  19. Role development includes CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and all required education/competencies for Flower Hospital and ProMedica.

  20. Maintains TJC, OSHA, Flower, and regulatory guidelines. Participates in quality monitors.

  21. Complete assigned projects by due date and time.

  22. Attend unit meetings and reads minutes of those not attended. Attends 100% mandatory inservices. Completed the assigned unit-based competencies.

  23. Works in cooperation with and offers assistance to co-workers and supervisory staff. Accepts responsibility for clarification of delegated tasks. Promotes positive image of unit and nursing through communication with peers, physicians, other departments, and supervisory staff.

  24. Is responsible for encouraging patients to participate in self-care or in providing direct personal care, such as: personal hygiene, bathing, mouth care, denture care, linen changes, or in assisting the nurse in more technical aspects of direct care. Also assist in nutritional, mobility, and comfort needs of the patient. Helps patient prepare for discharge by assisting patient in collecting personal belongings.

  25. Adheres to system, hospital, and department-based policies and procedures. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Must have an associate degree in Mental Health Technology and/or a bachelor’s degree (preferred) in a related field. Completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention during orientation Skills: Must have interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills necessary to work productively with patients, families, physicians, and a variety of personnel. Must possess critical thinking skills in order to collaborate in the provision and documentation of patient interactions and under stressful situations. Years of Experience: N/A License: N/A Certification: Must have CPR – BLS.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in a related field. Years of Experience: Recent experience in psychiatry preferred. Individual, family and group therapy training and experience preferred.
