Empower Federal Credit Union Data & Analytics Manager in Syracuse, New York

Role:


The Data and Analytics Manager will spearhead the development of enterprise-wide data solutions that enhance our ability to deliver exceptional products and services to our members. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with organizational leadership to design, implement, and optimize data analytics and visualization strategies that yield actionable insights across the credit union.

As the Data and Analytics Manager, you will:

- Leadership and Team Development: Cultivate a high-performing team by strategically planning talent acquisition, establishing clear performance expectations, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

- Data Strategy and Implementation: Oversee the execution of a comprehensive business intelligence strategy, including data design, integration, and maintenance, to support initiatives and enhance decision-making processes.

- Collaboration and Communication: Partner with cross-functional teams to identify business needs and translate them into effective data solutions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

- Innovation and Storytelling: Leverage data to craft compelling narratives that drive meaningful change within the financial services sector, promoting a data-driven culture throughout the credit union.

Location: Our headquarters are based in Syracuse, NY. We work in a Hybrid Model requiring a minimum of 5 days in office per month.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Data Strategy & Execution:
-Lead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-level data solutions including integrations, reporting tools, and analytic platforms.
-Partner with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to leverage data for business insights and improved member services.
-Establish and maintain robust data governance frameworks, ensuring data integrity, security, and accessibility.

Team Leadership & Development:
-Build and manage a high-performing team through strategic hiring, mentorship, and career development initiatives.
-Monitor employee performance and provide regular feedback.
-Coach and mentor team members to promote their personal growth and career development.

Business Impact:
-Collaborate with leadership to align data strategies with organizational goals, providing data-driven recommendations for strategic decision-making.
-Develop and promote self-service BI tools and dashboards, empowering stakeholders with the ability to access real-time insights independently.
-Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure the credit union remains competitive and innovative in data practices.

Technical Expertise:
-Lead the design and management of robust data architectures, ensuring scalability, reliability, and optimal performance across all platforms.
-Troubleshoot and resolve critical technical issues, serving as a subject matter expert and escalation point for complex challenges.
-Partner with IT to design scalable data architectures that support advanced analytics and reporting needs.
-Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness of data initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
-All other duties, as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:


Experience

5 to 8 years of relevant experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or related roles, with at least 1 year in managerial capacity.
-Significant experience working with data visualization and reporting tools including self-service (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
-Significant experience in Data Lake, Data Warehousing, Data Marts, and Data Lake architecture and principles (e.g., Snowflake, SQL)
-Significant experience in data management, data mining, data analytics, and data reporting
-Significant experience in working with ETL platforms and query engines
-Desired: Prior experience in a leadership role in a large financial institution or consulting firm.
-Desired: Advanced knowledge of, and extensive experience in a credit union or retail banking operations.


Education

Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Information Technology or Computer Science.

Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.


Other Skills

- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams.
- Significant experience working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, and vendors
- Advanced knowledge of project management methodologies using agile delivery and frameworks
- Advanced knowledge of data governance and metadata management
- Experience with formal change management
- Understanding of System Development Live Cycle is a plus.
- Familiarity with advanced analytic techniques and tools (e.g., Python, R, Spark) is a plus
