Madigan Army Medical Center is seeking Clinical Psychologists for the Embedded Behavioral Health Clinics on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). This clinic model is an early intervention and treatment structure of Behavioral Health that promotes Soldier readiness. It provides multidisciplinary Behavioral Health care to Soldier in close proximity to their unit's work area and in close coordination with unit leaders. Duties include conducting psychological assessments of active duty service members with a wide variety of psychological disorders that affect intellectual, cognitive, behavioral or emotional function, providing individual and group therapy, psychoeducational sessions, and psychotherapeutic interventions.

Responsibilities
The incumbent works as an independent professional under the administrative supervision of Behavioral Health carrying out independent duties in accordance with (IAW) generally accepted psychological theories, methods, techniques, and practices. Assignments are received in broad terms with the expectation of autonomous implementation. Incumbent’s findings, conclusions and recommendations are accepted as being professionally sound by colleagues and organization superiors.
Incumbent serves as Psychologist for the Clinic. Makes mental health diagnoses as appropriate in accordance with DSM-V-TR criteria, or other, more current, accepted standards. Provides individual and group therapy, using various modalities as clinically indicated to include brief problem-focused psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and client-centered therapy. Assesses acute mental health conditions in beneficiaries who present with such issues. Maintains appropriate documentation of patient care in accordance with current unit and hospital SOPs; current DoD,Army, Federal and state regulations; and professional ethics. Maintains performance and conduct inaccordance with current unit and hospital SOPs; current DoD, DA, Federal and state regulations;and professional ethics.
Assesses and provides crisis intervention for individuals and families. Other intervention skills mayinclude capacity to perform stress management, relaxation training, assertive/social skills training,smoking cessation training, substance abuse identification and brief related interventionsappropriate for primary care-based practice, weight reduction training, and brief interventions formastery of anxiety, depression, post traumatic symptoms and post deployment stress symptoms.Participates in related quality assurance activities. Provides individual, couple, family, and/or grouppsychological counseling utilizing a variety of treatment modalities to child, adolescent, and/or adultpatients. Provides psychological and clinical consultation to other professionals andparaprofessionals through established consultation channels.
MAJOR DUTIES
CLINICAL ASSESSMENT: Screens and interviews patients, and performs bio-psychological socialevaluations, using expert knowledge of general and specific concepts, principles, procedures, andpractices relating to psychological counseling; expert knowledge of the full range of psychologicaltesting; expert knowledge of psychodynamics, psychopathology, and therapeutic techniques; abilityto analyze clinical assessments of patients; skill in written communication; and skill in oralcommunication. Monitors and evaluates completeness of patient intake. Selects, approves, anddocuments treatment priorities through a treatment plan. Reviews level of care for appropriateness.Evaluates and approves referral sources. Prepares and delivers briefings and presentations.Conducts meetings, conferences, etc. Establishes cooperative agreements among various treatmentproviders. Monitors, evaluates, and approves use of community resources. Provides reports andapproves consults.
THERAPY, CASE STAFFING, AND TREATMENT: Conducts therapy, monitors, approves, anddocuments all treatment planning, and provides advice for case staffing, using expert knowledge ofgeneral and specific concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to psychologicalcounseling; expert knowledge of the full range of psychological testing; expert knowledge ofpsychodynamics, psychopathology, and therapeutic techniques; ability to analyze clinicalassessments of patients; skill in written communication; and skill in oral communication. Reviewsand approves the appropriate modality of each patient. Develops treatment processes andprocedures for orientation of patients. Evaluates information/education processes. Evaluates overalleffectiveness of therapeutic efforts. Institutes changes to increase effectiveness of therapeuticefforts. Evaluates appropriateness of treatment plans and goals. Develops treatment plans for themost severe cases. Provides structure and procedures for organization of case staffing information.Approves diagnoses. Establishes policies for case staffing. Uses objective behavioral outcomemeasures to evaluate progress in treatment. Participates with other professional staff in providingemergency mental health services on a scheduled, rotating, on-call basis to patients during normalduty hours to include screening patients for appropriateness of psychiatric hospitalizations.Coordinates with a variety of agencies to assist with the multidisciplinary treatment of patients thatmay include, but are not limited to social work, nursing, community counseling centers, theexceptional family member program, command and legal or other community agencies. Interactswith military commanders and be able to provide extensive knowledge of soldiering and thedeployment cycle.
ADMINISTRATION: Executes performance initiatives (PI) through revision of clinical standardsand procedures; performs special actions and a variety of program administrative duties; andperforms a wide variety of quality management/quality assurance (QM/QA) duties to meet JointCommission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) requirements, using expertknowledge of the general and specific concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating topsychological counseling; expert knowledge of psychodynamics, psychopathology, and therapeutictechniques; ability to analyze clinical assessments of patients; skill in written communication; andskill in oral communication. Evaluates clinical records and monitors all test administration andscoring for quality assurance. Evaluates environment of care. Monitors all risk management issuesand takes appropriate action. Establishes and executes performance initiatives. Establishes andmonitors objective behavioral outcome measures. Develops and revises professional service plans. Evaluates and revises standard operating procedures. Develops, approves, and executes theprofessional business plan. Conducts program evaluation. Consults with ancillary care providers.Substantiates the results of crisis intervention. Reviews data provided in reports of special actions.Directs budget priorities; directs manpower surveys; and briefs reports to the command and higherheadquarters. Reviews statistical data to modify program goals. Evaluate and approve educationalpackets.
TESTING: Oversees and interprets appropriate tests, using expert knowledge of general andspecific concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to clinical psychology; expertknowledge of the full range of psychological testing; knowledge of psychodynamics,psychopathology, and therapeutic techniques; ability to analyze patient assessments; skill in writtencommunication; and skill in oral communication. Monitors, maintains, and secures test instrumentinventory. Approves selection of various tests. Interprets various complex tests. Providesconsultation regarding testing and interpreting issues. Evaluates test results for release. Evaluatesdiagnostic summaries.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES: Develops, implements, and evaluates professionaldevelopment activities, using expert knowledge of general and specific concepts, principles,procedures, and practices relating to clinical psychology; expert knowledge of the full range ofpsychological testing; expert knowledge of psychodynamics, psychopathology, and therapeutictechniques; ability to analyze clinical assessments of patients; skill in written communication; andskill in oral communication. Coordinates inter-departmental in-service training. Evaluates scope ofpractice and modifies, as required. Evaluates training opportunities. Evaluates orientation activities.Attends American Psychology Association or the National Association of Social Workers approvedcontinuing education training. Adheres to the applicable Code of Ethics. Evaluates professionaldevelopment activities.

Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist:
Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.
AND
License: The Clinical Psychologist position requires a current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing psychological evaluations, developing treatment plans, and providing behavioral health interventions.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
