Ball Corporation Maintenance Mechanic/Millwright in Tampa, Florida

Primary purpose of the position:

Performs tasks and provides services to support the plant's production goals, overall business plans and objectives as directed.The Tampa plant is high-volume, fast-paced 24/7-365 days/year manufacturing environment. Our crews work4 days on/4 days off, rotating from days to nights and back every 4 weeks (6a-6p/6p-6a)

Essential Responsible Areas

  1. Complies with established job safety practices, policies, and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment.

  2. Supports and follows the guidelines of the food safety system.

  3. Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots machinery and tooling. Ensures that parts and tooling are in accordance with instructions, prints, and work orders. May be required to make drawings or sketches of parts to be made or repaired.

  4. Interprets drawings, calculates and determines indices, tapers, and other dimensions to be used for part(s), working raw materials into finished dimensions with exact tolerances per print.

  5. Performs layout work as required.

  6. Selects, grinds, and adjusts tools, ensuring correct speeds and feed rates of tooling for efficient machining. Ensures that parts and tooling are in accordance to precision requirements for both tolerance and finish.

  7. Sets up and operates machine tools, lathes, and grinders.

  8. Performs dismantling, fitting, or assembly work required for maintenance of production equipment.

  9. Repairs and maintains all assigned machines and equipment, including preventative maintenance.

  10. Troubleshoots repairs, installs, erects, moves, and/or dismantles all types of machinery and auxiliary production equipment.

  11. Inspects job site and equipment to be dismantled, erected, or moved, analyzes blueprints and schematics, estimates weight of loads to be handled, lifted, clearances, and recommends support equipment needed.

  12. Selects and transports tools, machinery, and materials needed for assignment.

  13. Fabricates sheet metal and structural units (guarding, steps, stairs, conveyors, elevators, platforms) as needed. Sets units in place.

  14. Performs preventative maintenance for building and grounds as necessary

  15. Performs organizational duties, including maintaining an organized and clean work area.

  16. Initiates, reviews, and follows all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for area of responsibility.

Position Requirement & competencies:

Professional & Education Qualification

  • High School Diploma or education equivalent required.

  • Job-related experience for 2 years minimum.

Skills

Ability to apply independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard maintenance, machine shop, and tool & die techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Must be able to handle sensitive related and proprietary information in a confidential manner.

Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.

Must follow company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in the Ball Corporation manuals.

Maintains awareness and complies with hazardous waste management and other environmental management requirements in the work place by attending scheduled training sessions.

Thorough understanding of the operating principles of all assigned equipment.

Possesses general carpentry skills.

Ability to arc weld, MIG weld, TIG weld, and use oxy-acetylene equipment, plasma.

Ability to use hand and power tools.

Ability to perform general plumbing and piping.

Ability to perform general structural and sheet metal fabrication.

Ability to use precision measurement equipment, working at tolerances of .000050.

Ability to operate and functionally use a computer.

Ability to demonstrate skill in operation of grinders, lathes, drill presses, and other machine shop equipment, working to tolerances of up to .000050.

Ability to operate forklift and auxiliary lift equipment.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Ability to use trigonometry.

Ability to read blueprints.

Must be able to organize, plan, and prioritize.

Ability to meet deadlines and to concentrate and pay attention to detail.

Must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.

Must have strong interpersonal skills.

Must maintain professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge, and skills

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of the following areas: welding, brazing, burning, bending; shearing and drilling; machinery; nomenclature of assigned equipment; knowledge in the use, care, and calibration of optical, electrical, and mechanical gauging equipment and instruments; standard machine shop tool and die practices; metallurgy and heat treatment.

Other Requirements

Works in a manufacturing environment.

Works in an environment that requires the use of protective shields, masks, or clothing due to torch flames, arc welding, or other systems.

Climbs and works in high, narrow places to place rigging, hoists, chain falls, scaffolds, jacks, skids, and rollers.

Compensation & Benefits

- Hiring Salary Range: $41.78 (Salary to be determined by the applicants education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.)

  • This role will be eligible to participate in the annual incentive compensation plan.
