Medtronic Tempe Campus (MTC) in Arizona is looking for a Principal Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer . A Day in the Life

Medtronic has been operating the MTC site for more than 50 years. MTC is now a 24/7 medical device manufacturing plant and technology development center; specializing in micro-electronics and sensors, responsible for helping patients through the anticipation, development & manufacture of solutions that matter. In this role, you will develop, administer, and implement environmental health and safety programs as part of our EHS performance system, campus safety teams, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Implement, execute, ensure compliance with the Medtronic EHS policies and procedures, and all federal, state, and local OSHA/EPA regulations (i.e., Lockout, Haz Com, Machine Safety, SARA, RCRA)

  • Report EHS incidents and metrics and maintain all relevant EHS documentation including developing/conducting employee safety training.

  • Identify and take corrective action against activities that pose potential threats to workers’ health or safety, which may include recommending organizational measures to protect workers’ safety through revised methods, processes, or materials; inspecting workplace environments, equipment, and/or practices to ensure compliance with standards and regulations; and investigating and/or identifying causes regarding filed incidents.

  • Facilitate the process of EHS hazard anticipation, identification, assessment, and control.Including coordinating/conducting risk assessments; coordinating adequate ergonomics programs; maintaining EHS corrective and preventive action records.

  • Monitor pollution prevention activities, compliance, and auditing efforts.

  • Conduct studies and prepare environmental impact reports for new construction projects, plant processes and permit changes, including conduct/coordinate Industrial Hygiene sampling plans.

  • Review and analyze environmental documentation issued by regulatory agencies; collaborate with regulatory agencies to determine corrective action plans.

  • Evaluate proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public, and environmental impact.

  • Interact with regulators to resolve compliance issues; represent company in government and industry rule-making activities.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and a minimum of 7 years environmental health and safety experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years environmental health and safety experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a medical device manufacturing facility and/or semiconductor manufacturing

  • Experience collaborating with diverse groups of people

  • EH&S Program Management experience

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
