About you and this role

Within our Claims Department EMEAI we have an interesting opportunity for aSeniorClaim SpecialistinTerneuzen, The Netherlands.

As a claims specialist, you will work on high value and/or legally complex claims for all modes of transport and all Dow businesses and you will handle the claim throughout the entire claim process and work with internal and external stakeholders in order to either minimize the loss incurred or maximize the restitution awarded to Dow in case of non-compliance in service by a third-party logistics provider.

We are looking for someone with alegal backgroundand/or relevant work experience, who is highly motivated and who has the drive and ability to perform exceptionally well and wants to develop him or herself. A multitasker, who can prioritize his or her workload while maintaining attention for detail. An independent thinker, who is self-confident and professional and who does not get worked up by conflicts and criticism, but at the same time is a team player. The Claims Department is part of the function of Dow Logistics. Logistics is responsible for the coordination of logistic services, such as road and marine transports and the storage of Dow products. It makes sure that Dow products are delivered on time throughout EMEAI. Several modes working within Logistics focus on areas like logistic coordination, including carriers and storage facilities. Damage and loss to cargo can happen throughout our organization’s supply chain; from defective packaging at a manufacturing plant to sloppy loading and unloading, crush damage from other cargo, theft, misrouting, mislabeling and so on. The cost of damaged or lost cargo can be enormous and can represent a significant impact on profits and this is where the Claims Department steps in.

Responsibilities

  • Process high value or legally complex claims and determine correct course of action

  • Evaluate validity of claims from legal perspective

  • Determine preliminary probable cause of damage ascertained and take appropriate related actions

  • Provide as a team required claims support through 24/7 on-call service (rotational) independently taking actions to protect the interests of Dow

  • Communicate with internal/external stakeholders in a proper and correct manner

  • Escalate legally complex or unusually high value claims to appropriate functions

  • Join external surveys and defend the business to safeguard their interests verbally as well as in writing.

  • Be responsible for claim data input and reconciliation for accounting purposes

Indicative Activities

  • Handle all claims received through functional mailbox

  • Prepare detailed claims reports

  • Claim handling through to closure of the case

  • Be responsible for claim settling together with business representatives and maximizing value to Dow

  • Cooperate with and support DOW legal department

  • Look up information in SAP

  • Update claim data base accordingly

  • Provide support in the coordination of shipment returns, disposal or off grade sell of material for high value or legally complex claims

  • Train and educate internal stakeholders as applicable on the claim process

  • Provide claim communications for informational purposes to plant personnel, customer account representatives, businesses and functional Mailbox

  • 24/7 on call service for Bulk Marine related claims

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Law or a Bachelor's degree in Law with relevant work experience in the field

  • Fluency in English (overall)

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Works independently, is self-motivated and accountable

  • Ability to work towards tight deadlines

  • Excellent planning & organization skills

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects/workload as appropriate

  • Travel approximately 5 – 10%

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of transport law is an asset
