This position directs the terminal safety management process and provides overall support and guidance to the terminal operations functions. The Safety Manager coordinates with the Terminal Manager as well as the Director of Safety in executing strategies for building and maintaining a culture of safety throughout the office, yard, and road transport operations. The Safety Manager is responsible for oversight of regulatory compliance; provides initial and on-going safety training and conducts qualification checks for both employee and contract drivers; conducts, and maintains records of, recurrent safety training for drivers and other terminal personnel; coordinates and manages the accident investigation and response process; conducts audits and inspections of the transportation safety process; and monitors statistics reflecting safety performance.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding transportation and workplace safety, including but not limited to the following:

``` - Monitoring driver applications and the selection process - Manages hours of service records for accuracy, violations and edits - Assuring DOT drug / alcohol program is compliant with regulations - Work with owner operators to assure that required equipment specifications are in place and that maintenance and inspection records are compliant. - Coordinate the accident cause determination decisions. - Appropriate follow-up and documentation in dealing with preventable accidents
Conduct safety training/coaching for drivers including subjects such as vehicle and driver inspections, load securement; video events; accident and incident reporting; hours of service limitations; and breakdown and road service procedures. Ensures online safety training is current.
Assure driver qualification files are compliant and contain all required documentation.
Schedules and coordinates onboarding orientations and ICOA execution.
Manages electronic equipment inventory. Omnitracs and SmartDrive.
Conducts yard walks to identify vehicle maintenance defects.
Manages and collects all monthly expirable items. Update safety databases.
Supervise and direct Terminal Safety Department staff.
