Position Summary:

UTHealth Houston is looking for an Assistant Director of Leadership Development Programs. This employee provides overall program management and development of a full range of technology-enhanced leadership development programs and services to support university faculty and staff's executive and management development. Oversees the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of leadership development experiences that incorporate elements of experiential and social learning in face-to-face, online, and LMS environments. Responsible for the facilitation of collaborative partnerships with faculty and academic unit leadership to integrate best practices for leadership development experiences. Enhances the team's professional development opportunities.

You will need to have experience in creating leadership programs, preferably with a learning institution or a clinical environment. You will conduct a needs assessment, develop content, execute the instructional design, develop programming, and work on process improvement aspects of the courses. This role will work a hybrid schedule in that you will need to be able to meet clients in person and handle event logistics. Examples of programs you will inherit include the Executive Leadership Institute, Toastmasters, and Women in Leadership. You will need to be able to design and build courses as well as keep these legacy programs running.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Oversees the development of curriculum and resources for the development of leaders and senior managers.

  2. Manages, prepares, and delivers facilitation of leadership development programs and experiential-based development plans.

  3. Oversees the selection and administration of validated leadership and needs assessment instruments.

  4. Manages the design and deployment of and facilitates focus groups and individual interviews and administers surveys to identify learning and leadership development needs.

  5. Leads the leadership coaching practice to UTHealth Houston leaders at all levels.

  6. Oversees and provides program management of leadership programs, including program content development, delivery, and evaluation, as well as provides recommendations for marketing and promotion.

  7. Serves as a subject matter expert to help lead the organizational and talent development function by providing insight and advisory to team leadership, program development, consultation, and professional development interventions.

  8. Manages and leads the Leadership Institutes and other related leadership development, coaching, and mentoring programs.

  9. Ensures accessibility, quality, accuracy, and effectiveness of leadership, learning and development programs, tools, and resources.

  10. Continually assesses and measures organizational and leadership development performance, capacity, motivation, and other organizational effectiveness indicators.

  11. Provides a strategic approach to leadership/development programs that deliver business results.

  12. Build strong relationships with internal/external partners for the delivery of employee development services.

  13. Manages Human Resources activities of direct reports in regard to recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Knowledgeable about organizational leadership, organizational behavior theories, and principles of adult learning theory and practice. Experience leading enterprise-wide leadership programs. Experience with program management of leadership development programs is a plus. Understanding of the leadership role within complex organization environments and cultures. A deep understanding of the learning sciences and their application to teaching and learning, including supporting employees in developing learning experiences in face-to-face, online, and LMS learning environments. Demonstrated commitment to service, respectful engagement, and continuous improvement. Leadership coaching skills and interpersonal skills that utilize a proven method or technique are desired. The ability to promote team building, collaboration, and a culture that principally understands and measures effectiveness in terms of others' successes is also desired—the ability to communicate clearly, verbally, and in writing.

Preferred:

Certification, training, or experience as a leadership coach and/or in one of the following assessments: PRO-D, LPI, EQi, StrengthsFinder, or another validated assessment instrument used with leaders. Experience administering assessments and providing leadership development coaching in an academic or healthcare environment.

Minimum Education:

A bachelor's degree is required, preferably in organizational leadership, business administration, organizational development, human resources development, or an academic-related discipline. Master's degree is preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Six (6) years of experience leading the development, direction, and management oversight of leadership programs. Experience managing large-scale programs in leadership and/coaching or other related programs in talent development. Previous experience as a talent development consultant, leadership development consultant or trainer in a talent development related role, preferably in an academic or healthcare environment, public or not-for-profit organization. Previous experience supervising an employee(s) and/or a project team.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
