McGovern Medical SchoolatUTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time Genetic Counselor, non-tenure clinical track Instructor or Assistant Professor position inthe Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Obtains patient and family historical medical data and interprets data obtained to determine possibleproblem areas.

  • Assists patients in understanding genetic diseases or birth defects to provide professionalcounseling services.

  • Assesses patient needs as they relate to emotional stress, fear of test results, financial or transportationproblems, marital conflicts, or patient-physician conflicts to make proper referral recommendations.

  • Updates the medical records and keep team members appraised of patient problems.

  • Refers patients for tests or to other assistance such as a social worker.

  • Monitors information resulting from test results and agency referrals and reviews cases for further evaluationto assure continuity of patient care and education of patient family in the nature of disease/problem.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Current board certification or board eligibility by the American Board of Medical Genetics or American Board of Genetic Counselors.

  • Master's degree in human genetics and counseling or a related field.

  • No experience required.
