In-House (Chevron GOMBU) Drilling and Completions Engineering Consultant Job Description

Bureau Veritas North America (BVNAM) in its Drilling & Completions Engineering group provides engineering and quality assurance consulting to the oil and gas industry and is headquartered in Houston, Texas. Our mission is to prevent down-hole equipment failures during drilling operations. We are recognized as the oil and gas industry leader in drill string engineering and quality management. In an extension of our services, we have a long-term contract at Chevron in their Gulf of Mexico Business Unit (GOMBU) for an in-house D&C engineering consultant position. This position works side-by-side with our in-house quality program manager, who oversees the third-party monitors in the field performing QA/QC verifications for Chevron.

In-House Drilling and Completions Engineering Consultant

This position is unique compared to our typical D&C project engineering position. With this position, it is your responsibility to provide dedicated support in the below key job responsibilities to the GOMBU operations teams and special requests as needed. This position carries a higher level of autonomy in that Chevron relies upon your knowledge, expertise, and sound judgement for critical decisions.

Below is a list of major KJRs although this may not be all-encompassing and may be variable through time as needs evolve.

  • Dedicated Chevron support

  • One-on-one Client interaction

  • Attending regular business partner meetings for rig teams to stay engaged with the operations teams

  • Providing regular updates and communications to QA Advisor (Buck Johnson)

  • Excellent communication with operations teams

  • Evaluation and optimization of drilling equipment

  • Performing slip crushing analyses (SCA) for upcoming and current landing strings

  • Performing landing string analyses (LSA) for current landing strings

  • Performing reactive torque analyses (RTA) for drilling BHAs with reamers

  • Creating tubular summary tables for the start of wells to include MUT recommendations

  • Review of heavy lift inspection reports during between well maintenance

  • Providing review of tool teardown scope of works, assistance during teardowns, and summarizing results in a report for the operations teams

  • Contributing to the continued development of the QA program within Chevron. Work alongside the Quality Program Manager to implement effective changes/improvements to the program.

  • Look for additional ways to add value for the position (special projects, R&D, papers, etc.)

  • Be a strong advocate for BV engineering services

  • Provide flex work back to the office as necessary

Reporting Structure:

This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager, who reports directly to the Director of Operations, Technical Center.
