As a Diesel Mechanic I, you’ll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services - uninterrupted. Based in The Villages, FL, you’ll have the opportunity to perform a variety of tasks in the preventive maintenance on sanitation fleet in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Diesel Mechanics use a variety of technical and soft skills to provide the most comprehensive repair solutions they can, including:
Consulting drivers and reading work orders to evaluate the tasks required
Preparing work plans after fully scoping out the issues
Running diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutions
Inspecting vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and exhausts
Diagnosing brakes, engines and other associated parts
Conducting field visits in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdown
Test driving repaired by self or others vehicles to gauge their performance
Completing oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment, and brake checks
Maintaining records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles
Advanced knowledge of a vehicle, its electrical system, and the mechanisms of a diesel engine
In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms
Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment
Comfortable using mechanical and electrical power tools
Excellent problem-solving skills
Keen attention to detail
Basic knowledge of computer systems and other relevant electronics
Proficiency in the use of diesel engine diagnostic software
Ability to perform welding and use torches

Possesses a valid CDL license or able to obtain one within 1 year of hire date
High School diploma or GED or higher
ASE Certification(preferred) with two years’ experience on diesel vehicles
Proficient in use of Excel computer software
Basic computer knowledge
Ideally, You’ll Also Have:
- Proficient in use of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Outlook

Due to the nature of the job passing a Pre-hire physical required to ensure candidates for this position are physically and functionally fit to perform the essential physical work functions of this safety sensitive position without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves or others.
The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to operate equipment, have vision sufficient to operate equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self across the facility, lift objects up to 40 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb into and out of vehicles having high ground clearance; carry a 40 pound tool box; use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; wear and use appropriate safety equipment.
