SUMMARY: Assist students with special educational needs by delivering academic instruction, assist the teacher with preparation of classroom materials, adapt curriculum to individual student learning level. Monitors behavior of students and assists in implementation of BIP.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   1. Assist special education students by delivering academic instruction within special education and general education settings. Assists teacher in adapting the curriculum to students’ individual learning level. Adapts work and monitors and enforces social and acceptable behavior. May assist with administering assessments or testing. Assists instructors with related paperwork.

  2. Assists instructors with preparation of classroom materials.

  3. May use alternative language such as sign language or voice activated computer systems. May occasionally assist in personal care of student to include toileting, catherization, diapering, lifting or pushing student in wheelchairs. Monitors student health.

  4. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Willingness to work with students receiving special education services (training opportunities provided).

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:

• Criminal background check required for hire.

• CPR and First Aid certifications required within 3 months after entering position.

• Universal Precautions training preferred.

• Crisis Prevention Intervention Training required within six months after entering position.

SALARY INFORMATION:

All Classified positions are paid on an hourly basis. All Newly hired classified employees are placed initially on Step 1 of the pay grade for their position. Classified employees can advance an additional 7 steps (maximum Step 8) based on their previous experience. Final hourly placement on the Classified Salary schedule is dependent on the Grade Level for the position being posted and employees’ previous work experience. “Grade” refers to position or job classification and “Step” refers to the number of work experience credit or service years.
