Shire Continuous Improvement Leader in Thousand Oaks, California
Uses standard Lean, Six Sigma and DMAIC principles to resolve complex problems, from conception to final design with team input. Plans, schedules and leads project assignments in the evaluation, selection and adaptation of various Lean techniques, procedures and criteria with minimal guidance. Project leader oversees and coordinates the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as a liaison between project management and planning, project-team and line management. Project leader manages projects of small to medium size scope, in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The primary role of the Continuous Improvement Leader is to lead, facilitate, and drive projects and teams, which identify and eliminate waste or reduce process variability. This person is a plant expert on Lean concepts, Lean tools, and the DMAIC methodology and is the primary teacher, mentor, and coach to others.
•Uses Lean and DMAIC principles to resolve complex Manufacturing and Quality problems from conception to final design with team input.
•Develops and Implements Lean Strategy for the facility.
•Drives Lean Deployment through process stability and efficiency through the elimination of waste and the management and improvement of operational standards.
•Drives Management Control Systems by which strategic plan and dashboard(s) are driven down through the value creation process and performance data flow back up through management reviews so that appropriate actions are taken to meet production goals.
•Participates with other managers in setting the project strategy, schedules, resource alignment and financial analysis.
•Works with a cross functional team to ensure design for manufacturability for new products or processes.
•Plans, schedules and leads project assignments in evaluation, selection and adaption of various Lean techniques, procedures, and criteria.
•Ensures products are implemented within stated goals and timelines. Report/track the progress, milestones, savings, and other key aspects of projects that are active on a regular basis.
•Using project management tools develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers and other manufacturing managers.
•Interacts through program updates and reviews with all levels of management.
•Ability to drive change in the organization using Change Management Tools.
•Trained and Certified in Lean Green Belt
•Trained in the following: Six Sigma Green Belt, PMM, CAP, LIT, and Lean Physics
• May perform other duties as assigned.

•Facilitate strategic planning by ensuring the deployment of key actions, their deployment and measurement with the aim to enhance competitive position overall performance, and future success.
•Ensures that strategic planning goes beyond the financials, encourage challenging assumptions, and allocates a proportion of resources for new approaches.
•Ability to look "backward" as well as forward to incorporate lessons learned and assesses progress.
•Able to identify key gaps in the organization for meeting future demands.
•Benchmark and implement best practices from other sites/facilities that improve business results.
•Drive continuous improvement in the culture by ensuring effective use of tools and approaches are consistently applied by engaging employees to eliminate waste, reduce defects, and create value every day in all areas of the organization to achieve strategic objectives.
•Ensures Six Sigma Competencies are being driven down at the facility to ensure the right knowledge, experience, and skills are available to support Business Strategy execution.
•Promotes Lean and Six Sigma Tools and Concepts through training, coaching, and mentoring employees in Lean and Six Sigma Tools and Concepts.
•Effectively uses tools and metrics to drive decision making and change in organization.
Change and Project Leadership:
•Drive change by understanding the desired outcome, stakeholders, readiness, barriers, and the overall impact of change – is a champion and advocate of change.
•Provides the tools, processes and communication to facilitate the change, utilizing project management and change management techniques.
•Monitors and measures adoption of the change, along with organizational response to the change, to ensure it is sustained.
•Ensures the organization has a system of operating mechanisms that engage senior management to drive the execution of the strategy, manage projects, reward and recognize performance, and identify and manage the key value streams.
•Applies operational knowledge to ensure that processes and activities are realistic, relevant, and aligned with the business needs and goals.

•Good interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor Degree preferred in Science or Engineering with 5 to 8 years of Manufacturing or Quality Experience. Strongly prefer with lean and/or six-sigma certified.
•Normal office environment.
•May be required to travel for business reasons, e.g. training and meetings.
•Must be able to work in controlled or clean room environments requiring special gowning. Will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in these work environments.
•May be around moving equipment and machinery.
•Inside working conditions.
•May be required to work or be assigned to a different shift as needed.
•Must be able to work more than 8 hours a day or 40 hours a workweek as required.
•Overtime may be required at times.
•Will have interaction with other people.
•Pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.
The overall physical exertion of this position is light work.
•May be required to lift and carry up to 30 pounds at a time when completing the following job duty: carrying Planning Session or Training supplies or project binders.
•May be required to push up to 50 pounds when completing the following job duty: preparing for Planning Sessions or Training and setting up the conference room.
•May be required to use hand / fingers frequently when completing the following job duty: typing on desktop computer or laptop keyboard.
•May be required to stand occasionally when completing the following job duty: running Planning Sessions or Training.
