Shire Warehouse Specialist in Thousand Oaks, California


The Warehouse Specialist is responsible for providing raw material support to all manufacturing departments, as well as maintaining inventory control within the warehouse.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Fills raw material orders for manufacturing departments in order to maintain appropriate stock levels within the manufacturing areas.

  • Following appropriate gowning procedures, performs daily raw material stock level review and material re-stocking within the manufacturing areas.

  • Represents Materials Management Department at daily meetings.

  • Anticipate and plan for raw material needs within manufacturing areas based on current production schedules.

  • Assists manufacturing departments with placing special orders.

  • Performs physical counts, cycle counts, and periodic inventory verification.

  • Leads inventory variance investigations to determine the root cause of inventory variances.

  • Utilize ERP and Warehouse Management System to transact all material movements.

  • Proficient in managing material needs of multiple suites within the facility.

  • Proficient at researching and placing special orders for manufacturing departments.

  • Initiate Change Control records and Nonconformance Events as required.

  • Revise QA-controlled documents as required.

  • Perform JDE shop floor material transactions for raw materials recorded on manufacturing documents.

  • Operate various powered industrial vehicles, such as forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and order pickers.

  • Complies with SOPs, GMPs, safety rules and regulations, and departmental procedures.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.


  • Requires strong interpersonal and organization skills. Proficient in warehouse management systems and pc environments.

  • Must be able to operate forklift and other material handling equipment.

  • Must be able to work independently without direct supervision.

  • Thorough working understanding and application of quality and business systems, for example: document/ batch record control, inventory control, and training, et. al.

  • Must have the ability to correctly complete high school-level mathematics.

  • Incumbent must be proficient in a variety of mathematical disciplines and be able to work with both the metric and USA standards of measurement.

  • Must be able to read and follow detailed written instructions and have good verbal/written communication skills.

  • Must be able to read, write, and converse in English.

  • Must be able to navigate, conduct searches, and fill on line forms on Personal Computer for the purposes of training, performance management, and self service applications.

  • Must have the ability to navigate electronic mail systems and intranet for communication purposes.

  • Basic word processing skills.

  • Basic spreadsheet skills.

  • Basic typing skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively and efficiently in a team environment.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor degree preferred. Minimum 3-5 years of warehouse and/or technical office experience.

Working Environment

  • Combination of office, warehouse, and manufacturing environments.

  • This position requires shift, weekend and holiday work.

  • May be required to travel for business reasons, e.g. training and meetings.

  • Must be able to work in controlled or clean room environments requiring special gowning. Will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in these work environments.

  • The incumbent must work in a clean room environment wearing special garments. Additionally, personal protective equipment must be worn due to safety requirements.

  • May work in a cold, wet environment.

  • May be exposed to sunlight and heat.

  • May be exposed to dust, gases, and fumes.

  • Possible exposure to cool/hot storage conditions.

  • Will be around moving equipment and machinery.

  • May work around Methotrexate, which is a known cell growth inhibitor.

  • May be working in a loud area that requires hearing protection and other protective equipment to be worn.

  • May work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and celite that may require respiratory protection.

  • Inside working conditions.

  • May require immunization before performing work within the manufacturing area.

  • May be required to work or be assigned to a different shift as needed.

  • Must be able to work more than 8 hours a day or 40 hours a workweek as required.

  • Overtime may be required at times.

  • Will have interaction with other people.

  • Pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.

  • The overall physical exertion of this position is medium work.

  • May be required to lift up to 75 pounds when handling raw materials.

  • May be required to push up to 450pounds (using mechanical means) when handling raw materials.

  • May be required to pull up to 450 pounds (using mechanical means) when handling raw materials.

  • May be required to carry frequently when handling raw materials.

  • May be required to climb occasionally when pulling raw materials from the warehouse.

  • May be required to use hand / finger feel occasionally when operation powered industrial vehicles.

  • May be required movement of head /neck frequently when handling raw materials and operating powered industrial vehicles.

  • May be required to grip and grasp frequently when handling raw materials and operating powered industrial vehicles.

  • May be required to use hearing frequently when working in the warehouse environment.

  • May be required to kneel frequently when handling raw materials.

  • May be required repetitive/sustained stooping and bending frequently when handling raw materials.

  • May be required to stand frequently when handling raw materials.

  • May be required to kneel frequently when handling raw materials.

  • May be required to walk frequently when working within the warehouse and manufacturing areas.

  • May be required to drive frequently when operating powered industrial vehicles.

  • May be required overhead reaching frequently when handling raw materials.

  • May be required to visually inspect frequently when handling raw materials.
