TIOGA MEDICAL CENTER (TMC) Surgical Technician (Surgical Tech) in TIOGA, North Dakota

Tioga Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Technician to join our team!

Position Type: PRN

Responsibilities: Prepare equipment and supplies for use in the procedure. Determine room is in readiness and OR suite is stocked for case. Scrub, gown and glove self and other team members for the procedure. Count sponges, needles and instruments with RN circulator according to established procedure. Handle instruments and supplies correctly and ensure their proper functioning. Anticipate surgeons needs and request additional items from RN circulator in sufficient time for surgical teams use. Label all solutions/medications as they are added to the sterile field. Assist with sterile table and room preparation, clean-up following the procedure, and containment of contaminated materials, sharps and needles. Update surgeons preference card, as indicated and replace card in the appropriate file. Direct and assist with between case clean-up and proceed with preparation for the next case.

Requirements

License and Certifications: Active Surgical Technician registration in good standing with the State of North Dakota Current BLS Certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Be responsible for providing a safe environment for the patient during the perioperative period. Have a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application. Be knowledgeable of the nursing process, nursing diagnosis and the standards of care for the surgical patient. Be knowledgeable of the physiological, pathophysiological and anatomical aspects of the surgical procedures assigned. Demonstrate leadership ability by effectively directing patient care activities. Maintain BLS certificate. Have and apply a working knowledge of the legal implications of patient care in the surgical area. Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork. Must have ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, patients, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
