THE POSITION

For over 90 years, Drake Well Museum and Park has preserved and interpreted the site of the Drake Well, chronicling the birth and development of the petroleum industry in Pennsylvania as well as its growth into a global enterprise. Visitors to the museum's 240-acre site enjoy a board-for-board replica of Drake's engine house built around the National Historic Landmark well, an operating central power oil lease, a standard drilling rig, 12,000 square feet of interior exhibits, and the largest artifact and archival collection focused on the birth of the modern petroleum industry and its growth in Pennsylvania in the 20th century. Drake Well Museum and Park also offers an abundance of year-round recreational opportunities, including paved bike trails, delayed harvest fly fishing in Oil Creek, modern picnic facilities, hiking trails, and a neighboring 9,000-acre state park.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The Keystone Intern for Drake Well Museum and Park will be introduced to and trained in many of the basic tasks in the Curatorial Department. The intern should enjoy detail-oriented work and have an interest in museums and conservation issues; research skills are valuable. This internship involves performing various curatorial activities from inventory, cataloging, and photo documentation to artifact care and maintenance. The intern may also assist with research requests. Computer skills and experience with databases is a plus, but training is available. Towards the end of the program, the intern will typically have the opportunity to complete one piece of independent research and writing relating to the collections. - 10-week internship, May 2025 through August 2025, approximately 225 to 300 hours
- Work hours are flexible and will be finalized between the selected intern and their supervisor
- Salary:* *$17.00 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:
- All applicants must be enrolled at a college or university in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of their internship.

Additional Requirements:
- You must be able and willing to report to Titusville, PA during the Summer Keystone Internship dates, which will be a 10-week period between May 12 and August 22, 2025.
- You must be majoring, minoring, or have a concentration in History, Public History, Museum Studies, or Library and Information Sciences.
- You must have a GPA of 2.5 or above.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.

An understanding of how this internship will help you meet your academic and/or career goals
Legal Requirements:
This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
