What You’ll Be Doing

The goal of CIBC’s Capital Markets business is to be the premier client-focused Capital Markets group based in Canada. To deliver on this, the capital markets arm of CIBC provides a wide range of credit, capital markets, investment banking, merchant banking and research products and services to government, institutional, corporate and retail clients in Canada and in key markets around the world.

As a member of the Capital Markets Data Governance Office reporting to the Data Governance Lead, you’ll be responsible for managing metadata, data quality metrics and rules, and data sharing and access for Capital Markets Client Data. You'll also be involved in defining the user requirements and testing Data Governance Tooling. Your role sits within a centralized Data Governance Team in the CAO office of Capital Markets, and will work closely with Data Owners, Data Stewards, Data Custodians and all other Client Data stakeholders in Capital Markets.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Data Governance - Implement Data Governance for Client Datasets following Capital Markets data procedures and processes with inputs from the governance bodies (Client Data Governance Working Groups and Capital Markets Data Governance Council). Work with business and technology stakeholders to identify Critical Data Elements. You will get involved in Data Governance Tooling Development and Purchase by providing expert input in user requirements, perform testing and manage tool administration when applicable.

  • Client Data Stewardship - Maintain Business Glossary content for Client Data Domains in the Data Catalog tool with Client Data Domain Steward’s approval and input from data stakeholders. Manage the Client Data Quality Rules in the centralized data quality rule repository and coordinate the definition of common data quality rules with inputs from business and technology data stakeholders. Manage the Client Data Quality Issues in the centralized data issue log by taking inputs from business data stewards and following up on progress of resolution.

  • Documentation - Document and track Data Custody Agreements between source and destination data sources by taking inputs from data stewards and data custodians, and seeking approval from data owners. Manage data access requests for the Capital Markets Client Data in Analytical Data Sources.

  • Support Client Data - Support Client data owner, Data Custodians and all other Client Data stakeholders and users with expert knowledge on data definition, classification, business rules, and responsible usage.

Who You Are

  • You demonstrate knowledge in Capital Markets Client Data Domain. You understand Client Master Data and Client Onboarding in the context of Capital Markets i.e. familiarity with Capital Markets clientele, business and product knowledge to easily understand the client onboarding lifecycle across Sales/Trading, Lending and Advisory services. Regulatory knowledge and experience with AML/KYC and Taxation (FATCA, CRA, 871M, etc) requirements and regulatory regimes (Dodd Frank, CSA, EMIR, MiFID, CAT NMS, CIRO (IIROC), etc.) are beneficial.

  • You demonstrate experience in Data Governance and Management. Experience in one or more data governance practices (Metadata, Data Quality and Data Access Management). Experience with Client Master or any other master / reference data management. Experience or familiarity with data governance and management techniques and technology (Data Catalog, Data Quality, Data Transformation and Transmission).

  • You have experience in Change Management. Ability to work with business, operations, finance and technology stakeholders from varying locations and asset classes. Ability to analyze and document business processes and implement new ones. Ability to gather and document user requirements in agile methodology. Ability to maintain and coordinate issue logs with prioritization and closure actions.

  • You can demonstrate experience with organizational tools such as JIRA, SharePoint, Confluence. You possess foundational technical skills (beginner/intermediate level in SQL, XML, BI tools, python, etc.) and comfort level working with existing and new technology and software applications.

  • You have a technological aptitude. You have previous experience with Microsoft Purview (or a similar data catalog tool), any Data Quality Tool and Databricks (or a similar cloud based data engineering tool) is an asset.
