About You

We’re seeking a result-focused, innovative, self-driven, and well-qualified individual to join our talented team as our Environmental Health and Safety Technician. Based out of our Torrington Connecticut location, you will meet BC&E DNA’s and ECT workplace health, safety, and environmental compliance needsby developing, implementing, maintaining, and overseeing health & safety systems and programs, and hazardous goods training, in compliance with OSHA, U.S. EPA, CT DEEP, Canada Ministry of Labor/Environment, federal, state, and local agency or department regulations and standards. Also, by establishing and managing environmental permitting compliance of BC&E facility operations.

In addition, you will:

  • Maintain compliance of environmental, health and safety regulations by developing, implementing, and maintaining policies/programs, and establishing guidelines for maintaining compliance to U.S. EPA/CT DEEP, Canadian Ministry of Labor/Environment and OSHA mandates.

  • Conduct routine environmental inspections/assessments by ensuring compliance of safety/environmental standards and regulations, and by reviewing environmental permits, stormwater programs, SPCC, and reporting requirements annually.

  • Facilitate health and safety training by providing training instruction and developing EH&S training programs to ensure compliance with standards/regulations in U.S. and Canada. Also, by implementing, leading, and following up on companywide hazardous waste operations and emergency response such as 40-hour HAZWOPER training and refreshers.

  • Implement company industrial hygiene programs by conducting routine air monitoring and chemical detection sampling and collecting air and solid environmental samples per required standards and regulations. Also, by documenting and managing EH&S data/results for compliance reasons.

  • Manage and implement company’s hazardous waste management program by overseeing all waste activities, storage areas, employee training, and recordkeeping associated with disposal of wastes.

  • Manage Dymax/Bomar/ECT safety & environmental performance measures through the EH&S incident reporting database system, and by providing incident management indicators: incidents, near misses, and safety observations. Also, conducting and coordinating EH&S investigations and overseeing corrective/preventative actions

Requirements

You should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, earth or life science, industrial hygiene, toxicology, or a related field – or the equivalent

  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers and current RCRA/DOT/IATA/IMDG training

  • Experience using industrial hygiene equipment and monitoring & multi-media sampling equipment.

  • Working in chemical manufacturing environment

  • 3+ years of experience working in a EH&S consulting, chemical manufacturing, or industrial environment, with a knowledge of industrial processes, and their impacts to employee safety and the environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Able to complete assigned tasks under minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work independently, but a strong effective team player mentality is a must.

  • Must be able to adapt quickly to changing scenarios.

  • Good working knowledge of OSHA/ U.S. EPA regulations and NFPA standards.

  • Travel up to 20% to New York, Ontario Canada, & Florida
