Summary:

As part of the Office of Management Information Systems at Thomas Edison State University and reporting to the Director of Data Reporting and Strategy, the Associate Director of Operational Reporting and Analytics will be responsible for providing business insights for executive stakeholders and end-users. Candidate will partner with relevant stakeholders to understand challenges and data insight needs, translating the challenges into business requirements, implementing enhancements, testing for accuracy and to ensure solutions meet the business need, and using analytics to identify trends.

The candidate will be responsible for report creation to aid in data discovery and business process needs. The data activities include trend analysis, delivery of insights via dashboards and data visualization tools (primarily Power BI), and identify automation opportunities. Candidate will create and maintain documentation about data definitions, metric explanations, and visualizations to promote university wide alignment and consistency in reporting.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-based environment, working independently and under supervision. Candidate must be detail-oriented, have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, and be able to work with staff and colleagues with diverse backgrounds and perspectives to provide best-in-class analytical solutions.

Responsibilities:

-Perform data discovery, analysis, and reporting in support of institutional initiatives and divisional needs.

-Develop and deploy complex BI reports and dashboards (primarily Power BI). Use data visualization and UX skills to present insights clearly and concisely. Provide guidance and explanations on metrics and visualizations.

-Prepare ad-hoc analyses with varying degrees of complexity and delivery requirements timelines.

-Work on special projects as needed and be available for technical and other support during critical periods.

-Perform other related duties as assigned.

-Demonstrate excellent, clear written and verbal communication skills including the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical persons.

-Experience in leading and managing projects in a remote/distributed environment.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree in data analytics, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, or another analytical discipline.

Experience: 2+ years of related BI analyst/developer experience.

-Strong Data Visualization developer skills (Power BI preferred)

-Understand data security issues associated with analytics.

-Experience gathering requirements, turning them into specifications, and delivering analytic products.

-Expert skills in Microsoft Excel are required, including the use of advanced analytical functions, pivot tables, PowerPivot, and the ability to work with connected databases.

Work Hours: 8:30–4:30 M–F
