Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor

Are you passionate about providing opportunities for individuals to rebuild their lives? The Rescue Mission of Trenton is seeking anLCADC Counselorfor our Behavioral Health Unit. The LCADC Counselor will work under supervision of the Director of Substance Abuse Counseling Services, the Counselor coordinates and provides counseling and supportive services to clients. Primary responsibilities include assessment and evaluation of resident needs and strengths, development and implementation of treatment plans, development and facilitation of education programs and group discussions and monitoring of resident progress. Our dedicated staff in the Shelter and our Behavioral Health Unit offer care, support and encouragement to all that reside here. Clients and residents are assisted by staff with treatment options, medical help, job placement, financial planning, education, counseling and mental health treatment. Our staff works diligently with the clients to get ID, an income and the things necessary to help them with transitioning to housing.

Qualifications for Position: Must have a bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work or a related field required or related experience. Master’s degree preferred and must have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience, preferredMust be knowledgeable in interviewing methods and techniques, case management principles and methods, professional ethics standards, substance abuse assessment instruments, and crisis intervention techniques; clinical diagnostic methods and principles and various modalities of counseling, psychotherapy, and abnormal psychology; criminal justice system, child welfare system and mental health system; federal, state, and local ordinances and policies regarding therapeutic issues. Attention to detail is requiredCertifications and Licenses: Licensed LCADC) as Drug and Alcohol Counselor by the State of New Jersey, Division of Consumer Affairs, State Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners, Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee or other certification approved by State of NJ DMHAS. Certifications and License: NJ LCADC, NJ LCSW or NJ LPC preferred and a v alid driver’s licenseMust have computer skills and knowledge of software programs (Microsoft office, client chart program)

Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Services

  • Assesses resident needs, strengths and goals

  • Develops, implements, reviews and revises treatment plan under the supervision of the Director of Substance Abuse Counseling Services and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Conducts group and individual counseling sessions

  • Develops resident aftercare plan

  • Participates in clinical supervision with the Director of Substance Abuse Counseling Services or designee in accordance with requirements of the State Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners, Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee and applicable license requirements for residential substance abuse treatment facilities

  • Provides input into the development of policies and procedures

  • Evaluates and recommends residents for Life Skills Program and other Rescue Mission services, as appropriate

  • Communicates with the Department of Corrections, State Parole Board, Drug Court, government and other organizations, as appropriate, to arrange treatment and services for residents

  • Serves as case manager for assigned cases; provides client support

  • Supervises resident treatment activities

  • Encourages resident participation in recovery support programs and appropriate recreation

  • Participates in staff meetings, case conferencing & training as required

  • Participate as part of the Multidisciplinary Team

  • Communicates effectively with clients, peers, supervisors, and external individuals.

    Administrative

  • Serve as a professional development trainer on topics identified by the Director of Substance Abuse Counseling Services

  • Provide coaching to counselor and counselor interns as requested by the Director of Substance Abuse Counseling Services

  • Assist the Director of Substance Abuse Counseling Services in creating and providing oversight of interventions and/or group curriculum's as requested

  • Provide supervision of a CADC or counselor intern as designated by the Director of Substance Abuse Counseling Services

  • Initiates timely documentation of all services delivered

Pay $60,000 to $63,000, Plus a Comprehensive Benefit and Training Package
