Henry Ford Health System College Intern - IT (In person - Troy, MI) - Health Alliance Plan in Troy, Michigan

Health Alliance Plan (HAP) is seeking motivated and talented individuals to join our Information Technology (IT) team as interns for the Summer 2025 Intern Program. The full time program will run May 12 – August 8, with the opportunity to start part time sooner. This paid internship will require the ability to work in person at the HAP building in Troy, MI (commute & housing expense reimbursement not provided).

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience and contribute to our mission of enhancing the health and well-being of the communities we serve. As a HAP intern, you will get exposure to various aspects of our organization and work closely with industry professionals, enabling you to develop valuable skills in the healthcare and insurance sector.

PROGRAM DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct comprehensive research on industry trends, healthcare policies, and emerging technologies. Analyze data and prepare reports to support strategic decision-making processes.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assist in the planning, development, and implementation of projects. Contribute innovative ideas and support the execution of initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and customer experience.

Assist in the collection, organization, and analysis of healthcare-related data. Ensure data accuracy and integrity, utilizing appropriate software tools and methodologies.

Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and assisting with customer support activities. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while interacting with internal and external stakeholders.

Identify opportunities for process optimization and propose innovative solutions to streamline workflows and enhance productivity. Assist in the implementation of approved process improvement initiatives.

Create and maintain accurate documentation, including policies, procedures, and project-related materials. Generate regular reports, dashboards, and presentations to effectively communicate project progress and outcomes.

Collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments to support a positive and inclusive work environment. Contribute actively to team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Department Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support and maintain in-house computer systems, desktops/laptops and peripherals.

  • Will involve installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal workstation performance.

  • Troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user training and assistance where required.

  • This is an on-site position only - no remote work.

    PROGRAM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, an accredited 4-year undergraduate or graduate program in a relevant field.

  • Excellent research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated adaptability, initiative, and a desire to learn and grow.

    Department Education/Experience Required:

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Windows 10/11 and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Share point) required.

  • Help Desk or end user support experience preferred.
