Video Conferencing Engineer

This position is currently open to HVCC or EOC Employees only.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and one (1) year designing and implementing fully built-out video conferencing technology integrations for use by departments with multiple source inputs that allow the space to be fully functional for in-person or remote education OR Associates degree in Computer Science or related field and three (3) years designing and implementing fully built-out video conferencing technology integrations for use by departments with multiple source inputs that allow the space to be fully functional for in-person or remote education OR five (5) years designing and implementing fully built-out video conferencing technology integrations for use by departments with multiple source inputs that allow the space to be fully functional for in-person or remote education.

Proven strong experience with engineering, designing, and implementing plans for video conferencing spaces using Cisco, Extron, Creston, or similar equipment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Proficient in video conference management systems (Cisco TMS, Cisco Control and Expressway, Zoom dashboard) Extron, and/or Crestron Certification (any level).

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Video Conferencing Engineer reports to the Managing Video Conferencing Engineer or designee and performs the following duties:

• Providing support for video conferencing spaces across 6 geographic locations (Main Campus, Albany Airport, TEC Smart/HVCC North, Jordan Rd, Troy EOC, and Albany EOC).

• Providing support for the college in the high school program sites and their technology partners (Questar, STEM, BOCES and RICs) utilizing videoconferencing.

• Oversees management systems for video conference infrastructure and endpoints (Cisco and Zoom).

• Engineer/Design/Develop plans for conferencing spaces (classrooms, labs, unique use).

• Perform troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair of conferencing technologies.

• Facilitate equipment repair decisions, contact repair vendors, and test repaired equipment.

• Provides support and personal contact to faculty and staff in video conference spaces.

• Develop technical specifications for video conferencing technology hardware and software installation.

• Implement technology based on design standards for Learning, Teaching, and Collaboration spaces used to build and maintain video conference spaces.

• Work with engineers, construction managers, and faculty in partnership with internal and external groups including Campus Planning, Design, and Construction, Facility Services, Academic Affairs, schools and colleges, and other IT units. Project scopes range from renovations to new building construction.

• Research, recommend and provide consultation in emerging technologies to ensure upgrade and migration paths are available for future technology systems.

• Provide specifications and purchase recommendations for videoconferencing hardware and software.

• Recommend standards, procedures, and techniques to improve videoconferencing technology infrastructure.

• Recommend acquisition and disposal of videoconferencing equipment that will ensure that current technology is available and obsolete equipment replaced.

• Research and recommend new video conferencing technologies to enhance teaching and learning at the College.

• Develop and recommend policies and procedures for videoconferencing technology systems.

• Provide support to help desk staff with videoconferencing technology applications and systems troubleshooting and problem resolution.

• The IIT Video Conferencing Engineer (VCE) will utilize outstanding communication, technical, and project management skills, and an entrepreneurial approach to support and enrich the experience of the campus community.

• The VCE provides project leadership, video conference space design and support to faculty, students, and staff. This support includes project management, and the operation and maintenance of video conferencing technology installed in classroom presentation systems.

• The VCE will help coordinate operation, preventative maintenance, and just-in-time technical response support for campus facilities.

• The VCE will also work directly with all IIT departments to foster excellence in the technologies provided to faculty and students.

• Must operate a college vehicle as needed during performance of the above job responsibilities.

• Performs related duties as assigned by the Managing Video Conferencing Engineer or designee.

This is a Full-Time, benefitted position with a salary range of $70,000-$75,000.
