LOCATION: Hospitality House - 1002 N. Main Ave., Tucson AZ

SUPERVISOR: Food Service Coordinator/Lead Cook

STATUS: 40 hours FT (Shift 9:30am-6:30pm,Thursday through Monday – Days off Tuesday/Wednesday)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Some cooking experience planning and executing meals

  • Must possess and maintain ServSafe Food Handlers Certification or obtain within 30 days

  • Ability to create meals with or without a menu

  • Able to demonstrate respect and sensitivity towards a diverse population

  • Able to supervise volunteers

  • Able to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times

  • Able to operate all kitchen equipment safely

  • Demonstrated ability to take the initiative and be a self-starter

  • Good Communication and organizational skills

  • Must pass background check

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cook, season and prepare food according to recipes, menu or personal judgment for shelter clients.

  • Manage food preparation for following days meal as time allows.

  • Turn or stir foods to ensure even cooking, weigh, measure and mix ingredients using good judgment.

  • Prepare sack lunches daily for clients and public distribution.

  • Provide input with Food Service Coordinator in planning of menus, taking into consideration monthly budget, using cost saving strategies when possible.

  • Provide supervision to cooking and dining room volunteers, including delegating responsibilities, to those assigned during the shift.

  • Serve and arrange meals using portion control.

  • Assure food standards are met, food is properly prepared, meeting required temperature tests, tasting, smelling, or piercing with utensils.

  • Follow safety requirement standards with all food storage for proper preservation and distribution.

  • Cleaning of kitchen area, equipment, and utensils thoroughly upon completion of preparation and serving meals.

  • Put away donated food items in dry storage or refrigerator/freezer timely to insure proper temperature controls.

  • Meet all health, safety requirements and sanitary food-handling practices in kitchen and dining room as mandated by law.

  • Report equipment needs and maintenance problems to Coordinator.

  • Notify Coordinator of any inventory needs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
