TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E280 Bridge Engineer I or II in Tyler, Texas

Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at the Transportation Engineer I level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Employees at the Transportation Engineer II level perform complex engineering work and works independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties: Transportation Engineer I- Coordinates with local officials on critical findings involving structures which are not under state jurisdictions to have them posted, repaired or closed to the traveling public.- Inspects structures for impact damage and/or construction problems and may design emergency shoring to prevent collapse of damaged structures.- Recommends bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges.- Coordinates with others to develop, monitor and update integrated project plans and schedules to ensure projects are executed in the most efficient manner possible.- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer II - all of the above and:- Assists in developing and/or monitoring budgets.- Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant design contracts.- Verifies project eligibility and assists with ranking projects and funding.
