The Office of Columbia River *within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a *Permit Writer/GIS Mapper (Environmental Specialist 3) (In-Training) *position. This position is located in our *Central Region Office (CRO) in Union Gap, WA{rel="nofollow"}. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.

 

Join a creative and diverse team of people working to meet the current and future water needs of the Columbia River Basin! In this role, you will work on the permitting and permit maintenance of all water development projects along the Columbia River. You will handle the permitting components of complex acquisition projects throughout Eastern Washington and contribute to a team dedicated to developing both instream and out-of-stream uses in the Columbia Basin across a wide variety of projects. You will also be the primary Geographical Information Systems (GIS) practitioner for the Operations Section, responsible for entering data and providing support to staff on GIS matters.   Note: *This position offers a career path and on-the-job training. This position allows you to progress through the *Environmental Specialist *field and achieve the goal class of an *Environmental Specialist 3 (ES3). Candidates will be considered at the ES2 and the* ES3 levels, depending on their qualifications. *Program Mission: *The mission of the Office of Columbia River is to aggressively pursue the development of new water supplies for the Columbia River and its tributaries to benefit both instream and out-of-stream uses. Although we partner with many agencies and programs, our mission sets us apart with respect to seeking out and finding water supply solutions by using all of the available tools. We use innovative conservation technology, habitat enhancement tools, and water supply forecasting to improve water supplies for families, farms, and fish in Eastern Washington.

*Telework options for this position: *Initially, this position will work in the office the majority of the time for job orientation, getting to know program staff, and learning Washington Water Law and permitting and regulatory guidance and policies.
