TransCore, LP Sr Director of Operations in Union, New Jersey

TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a full-time Sr. Director of Operations to join our team in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area.

Job Summary: Participates in establishing objectives, plans and budgets at a program or project level. Oversees the technical, operational and budgetary objectives for the program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Plans and coordinates projects to include proposals, estimating, tracking costs, scheduling, customer interface, bill of materials, ordering of parts, materials and equipment, etc.
Supports in planning and coordinating department level budgets, financial forecasts and monitoring performance.
Prepares bids, schedules, contracts, subcontracts, etc.
Manages performance of contractors, engineers, and/or technicians.
Coordinates technical and administrative support activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages 5-50 employees, some of which may be through subordinate supervisors. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Engineering Degree (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical/Software) and licensing are preferred, however, not mandatory.

Authority: Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers. Senior management reviews objectives to determine success of operation. Involved in developing, modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations(s) and may also have companywide effect.

Job Complexity: Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives. Implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Establishes and assures adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.

Discretion: Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may impact the short-term goals of the organization.

Interaction: Frequently interacts with subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company. Often must lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team.

Direction: Manages, perhaps through subordinate supervisors, the coordination of the activities of a section or department with responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing. In some instances this manager may be responsible for a functional area and not have any subordinate employees.

Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience within the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and/or Tolling Industry and 18 years of related experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
