Position Summary: Quality Control Chemist is responsible for performing tasks that support the operations unit during batch processing, including quality control inspections, checks, and tests during all stages of production and certifying products for shipment.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Understanding laboratory calibration procedures and protocol

  • QC Chemist must work and effectively communicate with supervisors, managers, other QC Chemists, chemical operators, maintenance technicians, material handlers, contractors, and engineers.

  • Making and recording observations and for improving processes

  • Maintaining the retain system.

  • Manipulation of the computer systems to enter data, manage inventories, and generate Certificates of Analysis (LIMS and SAP)

  • Effectively communicating the process stage and disposition information on batches

  • Miscellaneous sample analysis for the investigation of customer complaints, concerns, or requests

  • Participation in Gauge R&R studies to validate methods and analysts.

  • Following laboratory procedures in disposing of laboratory waste in order to insure environmental compliance.

  • Following laboratory procedures for labeling and storage, and safe handling of chemicals

  • Perform analyses of incoming raw materials using approved, methods and specifications in order to certify their quality.

  • Carry out in-process and final product analyses.

  • Certify products for shipment.

  • Support / adhere to all quality system requirements, including ISO 9001, European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFfCI), Good Manufacturing Practices and Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), consistent with Manufacturing Excellence and HSSE Management Systems as it relates to this position

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biology, or a high school diploma in addition to related laboratory experience.

  • Ability to perform job activities in compliance with HSE policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of standard concepts and practices within the field of chemistry.

  • Knowledge in performing wet and instrumental analyses for controlling chemical processes.

  • Understanding of laboratory safety techniques.

  • Understanding of solution preparation

  • Understanding of when and how to report incidents or accidents.

  • Effective communication.

  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, email, and navigating file servers and web-based programs.

  • Certain degree of creativity and independence to accomplish goals.

    HSSE Responsibilities:

  • Follow all site HSSE policies and procedures.

  • Completely understand and follow plant life critical procedures.

  • Use appropriate PPE based on job task.

  • Fully participate in plant health, safety and environmental (HS&E) initiatives

  • Complete live and computer-based training to comply with HS&E requirements and policies.

  • Attend required daily and monthly safety meetings.

  • Maintain housekeeping standards.

  • Follow laboratory procedures for labeling and storage, and safe handling of chemicals.

  • Appropriately handle the Generate and handle hazardous waste as part of lab operations utilizing satellite containers. Responsible for container labeling and marking, moving containers, and may collect samples to assist with characterization of waste.
