JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Lifecycle Engineering team of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University.  ARL/Penn State's purpose is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities' engineering and technology needs. You will: Develop tangible solutions to maintenance and manufacturing problems in a shipyard/depot level environment Occasional travel to various shipyards and depots Work closely with onsite technicians to solve problems Use large fabrication equipment including lathes, welders, mills, and soldering irons to prototype equipment Work in both an office and shop environment Generate formal drawings and three dimensional models This job can be filled at the professional, intermediate or advanced professional level, depending on the successful candidate's education, and experience.  Minimally requires a Bachelors' degree in an engineering or science discipline. Additional education and/or experience required for higher level positions Additional responsibilities for the intermediate professional level include: May mentor and/or train lower level employees and students Initiate or contribute data/analysis/design for use in technical reports Additional responsibilities for the advanced professional level include: Author or co-author papers, proposals, presentation and reports May supervise lower level employees and students Required skills/experience areas include: Knowledge of software including Solidworks, Siemens NX, AutoCAD, Arduino Experience designing, installing, and debugging automation and control systems in the field, including upgrading legacy hardware to modern standards. Capability to use large fabrication equipment including lathes, welders, mills, and soldering irons. Experience in generating formal drawings and three dimensional models. Preferred skills/experience areas include: Experience leading teams of engineers on various projects. Familiarity with integrating various analog and digital sensing technologies. Previous DOD and classified work experience Candidates for consideration must submit a cover letter of interest and a resume. The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is: $76,700.00 - $164,000.00
