JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The College of Agricultural Sciences Burghardt Legume-Rhizobia Symbiosis Lab is looking for an undergraduate technician to assist with routine lab and field activities. Our lab uses interdisciplinary techniques to study plant-microbe interactions particularly those occurring in root nodules and the rhizosphere.

Our research focuses on host-symbiont selection and how host genetic changes and the soil environment influence partner selection. We are currently conducting NSF funded research and exploratory pilot experiments utilizing a variety of legume species along with a custom rhizobia collection. Business as usual includes tasks such as cleaning glassware, greenhouse and plant care, making culture media (solid and liquid), growing cultures, making fertilizer stocks, DNA extractions, PCR, and image analysis. This position would allow the technician to learn a variety of basic and advanced laboratory skills in both plant and microbiological sciences. Could lead to more independent research opportunities.
