The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is searching for an Assistant Director, Strategic Compensation and Operations.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Compensation Strategy, the Assistant Director, Strategic Compensation and Operations will be both a strategist and a personal contributor who will lead a team of compensation professionals who deliver compensation services to the organization and play a pivotal role in expanding compensation consultation, services, and support, as well as enhancing the effectiveness of overall Compensation, Classification, and Career Architecture (CCCA) programs, policies, and systems within the University of Illinois Human Resources at Urbana-Champaign.

Position Overview

The Assistant Director, Strategic Compensation and Operations position will:

  • Oversee and direct the University\'s Strategic Compensation Programs and Operations units to ensure that the university\'s compensation plans, programs, and policies are competitive, cost effective and aligned with the university strategies and are administered effectively.
  • Lead creation and implementation of compensation operational strategies, systems, job aides, and supporting collateral to drive efficiency as well as enhance employees\' compensation and classification experience.
  • Lead documentation of compensation and career architecture processes, procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage projects within the Compensation, Classification, and Career Architecture unit\'s portfolio from conception through completion.

The successful candidate will be an experienced, analytical, and strategic leader with a passion for Compensation and for ensuring fairness, equity, consistency, and market competitiveness in the Compensation space and exhibit the ability to develop and successfully implement an effective operations strategy and supporting tools to ensure efficient processing of workflows in an accurate and efficient manner with a high level of attention to detail and process improvement.

*Minimum Qualifications*

  • Bachelor\'s degree in human resource administration, management, organizational administration, public administration, labor relations, business administration or a field closely related to the position.
  • At least 6+ years progressively responsible experience in human resources performing professional-level human resources duties with at least 4 years focused compensation development, administration, and management.
  • 2+ years\' supervisory experience leading and developing a team of human resource professionals.

*Preferred Qualifications*

  • In-depth knowledge and application of project management, needs analysis and assessment methodologies.
  • Experience in developing, structuring, overseeing, and maintaining documentation pertaining to organizational processes, procedures, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of compensation classification systems, civil service statutes, rules and procedures as frequently found in government or public sector.

*Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities*

  • Detailed knowledge of compensation program design and administration including benchmarking/best practice analysis, structure development, career framework/ job. architecture design/administration and supporting communications/training collaterals.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a proven ability to motivate a d guide teams to achieve organizational goals.
  • Proficient in assessing and reviewing existing operational systems, processes, and policies to pinpoint areas for enhancement, and adept at designing and implementing new systems, processes, and policies to boost efficiency and productivity.
  • Proficient in MS office software with advanced proficiency in Excel and data management.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and other relevant regulations associated with the discipline of compensation.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is November 16, 2024. The budgeted salary range for this position is \$115,000 to \$130,000.
