Tenure or Clinical Track Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in Veterinary Surgical Oncology

Variable appointment (25-100%)

Requirements: The successful candidate must have a DVM degree or equivalent and have achieved ACVS board certification or completed residency training with credentials accepted by ACVS. In addition, ACVS fellowship training, ACVS Founding Fellow recognition in surgical oncology, required. Preference will be given to candidates with ACVS certification, advanced degree(s), track record in scholarship, and/or prior research training.

Duties: The University of Illinois is developing a high-quality integrated oncology service with specialists trained in medical, radiation, and surgical therapies as well as pain management. These services work collaboratively to achieve tripartite excellence in research, teaching, and service. The current oncology program at the University of Illinois\' College of Veterinary Medicine is a highly productive and dynamic group of individuals who have achieved excellence in the arenas of comparative research, resident instruction, and the practice of cutting-edge diagnostics and therapies for companion animals.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide clinical service in veterinary small animal oncology service, contribute to clinical instruction of surgical residents, interns and veterinary students, and communicate effectively with clients and referring veterinarians. Teaching responsibilities will also include didactic, small group and laboratory instruction of veterinary and graduate students. Participation in clinically relevant or basic research projects is expected. Candidates interested in collaborative research will find ample opportunities to collaborate with our thriving medical and radiation oncology programs within the College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as with basic science investigators on main campus. Development of a Fellowship program in Surgical Oncology will be supported.

The University of Illinois Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is a full-service facility with newly equipped surgical suites including fluoroscopic capabilities. The new surgery suites include 8 new operating arenas, with a fully-equipped interventional suite and new, state-of-the-art minimally invasive equipment for soft tissue surgery from Karl Storz, Inc and for orthopedic surgery from Arthrex, Inc. Other equipment to perform thoracoscopy and laparoscopy including the harmonic scalpel and Ligasure systems is also available. On-site services include computed tomography, 3T MRI, radiation therapy, Dual Energy X-Ray absorptiometry, gait analysis and rehabilitation therapy. Renovations also included expanded anesthesia, ICU, Intermediate Care and ER spaces. The Oncology service is currently in the process of a major expansion which will include a separate entrance and client waiting area, exam rooms, increased treatment areas, ward spaces and teaching spaces, technician offices, a small procedures room, and faculty offices.

The percent time dedicated to teaching, scholarly activities, and clinical service will be based on the successful candidate\'s appointment.
