    Position Summary:

    Provides direct recreational therapy services to adult patients on the inpatient mental health unit. Develops individualized and group treatment programs to restore or maximize each patient's functional skills.

    Qualifications:

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Certified Therapy Recreation Specialist (CRTS) upon hire. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS preferrederred 2-3 years of experience ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Good interpersonal skills and communication.

    Essential Functions:

  • Plans appropriate treatment programs for adult patients based on physician referral, evaluation results, patient/family goals and interests, multi-disciplinary treatment recommendations, sound clinical judgment and other pertinent available information.

  • Administers daily treatment ensuring that the treatment plan is age-appropriate and adjusted as necessary, in order to meet the changing needs of the patient and/or group.

  • Determines the need for appropriate supplemental group and/or individual therapy and requests that it be scheduled accordingly.

  • Communicates with team members, other professionals, family members and caregivers for the purpose of sharing information that will assist in achieving optimum care for the patient. Establishes effective rapport with patients of all ages depending on assignment.

  • Maintains appropriate supplies and equipment pertaining to recreation and/or leisure for patients.

  • Ensures safety of the entire unit with all activities.

  • Selects appropriate assessment procedures to evaluate the abilities and limitations of adult patients.

  • Administers and interprets initial assessments which determine the patient's status in the following areas of function: leisure skills, modification for activity, social background, cognitive functioning and community involvement.

  • Provides education to the patient and family or significant others based on patient need. Identifies and addresses learning readiness, preferences and learning barriers.

  • Follows appropriate safety and infection control measures pertaining to patient care, equipment and the general working environment.

  • Supervises recreational therapy interns.
