The information Trust Institute in The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for a Research Scientist position. This position is responsible for supporting or acting as Principal Investigator in the oversight and development in resilient computing and communication for cyber and cyber-physical systems. The person in this role will collaborate with other academic departments, interdisciplinary research units, centers, and industrial and national lab partners as appropriate. They will support ITI research initiatives and represent the ITI in the broad academic community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Research Activities

Lead research projects related to resilience of cyber-systems (particularly cyber-physical systems) to attack including quantitative risk assessment, passive and active protective technology, cyber-architecture, analysis of operational data, maintaining critical operations through attack, and recovery from attack.

Develop and implement research proposals as part of ITI research team.

Actively collaborate with UIUC faculty and faculty from other Universities in pursuit of new and ongoing research.

Publish results of research in leading venues.

Engage in outreach including educational outreach.

Participate in technology transfer of research outcomes to potential marketplace solutions.

Advise students in support of active research Pursue opportunities to attend conferences and present active and completed research outcomes.

Administrative

Create documentation, project reports, publications, presentations, and other written material to inform or convey deliverables and associated program details in support of sponsor requirements.

Other duties as assigned

Assume additional appropriate related duties to further the mission of ITI.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Computer Science or Electrical and Computer Engineering or related field with an emphasis on computer/system security.

Experience working in a research or education environment or industrial environment.

Experience with creation of concrete research artifacts (e.g. software tools), publications of research results in respectable peer-reviewed conference and/or journal publications, and/or working on resilient cyber and cyber-physical infrastructure problems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Three (3) years of experience as an Engineering or Research Assistant.

University Research Experience on Grant Funded Programs related to computer/system security.

Experience with computing testbeds tailored to critical infrastructures.

Experience successfully managing research projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to convey technical topics in a way that can be understood by wide audience.

Technical understanding of cyber security and its application.

Strong presentation skills.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision w ll be made until after that date. The minimum salary is \$75,000 and is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site, as needed. Work authorization is not available for this position.
