University Housing - Residential Life

Job Summary

The Residential Case Manager coordinates case management and intervention related to resident behavioral concerns for Residential Life and Family & Graduate Housing. This position serves on the Community Standards and Safety Education Team and leads the response to residents of concern using ethical principles and a social justice approach. All University Housing staff will engage and contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within University Housing.

Duties & Responsibilities

Resident Intervention & Care Coordination Responsibilities

• Provide in person, periodic follow-up with residents directly after critical incidents.
• Meet with residents to discuss concerning behaviors (non-clinical).
• Inform residents about the support services available to students on campus and in the community.
• Follow all policy and rules (including FERPA requirements) related to student information.
• Coordination of staff response for residents who need behavioral intervention (not student conduct focused).
• Communicate with residential staff and campus partners to coordinate care.
• Engage in follow-up for mental health cases by working with hall staff to develop plans of action for cases.
• Determine strategy and response needed for each resident case.
• Provide assistance to Residence Hall Director and Area Coordinator staff through staff training and coaching to effectively respond to residents with concerning behaviors or related incidents.
• Participate year-round in a rotation of on-call coverage for crisis response back up for Residence Hall Directors, including the academic year, university break periods, summer and conference seasons.
• Respond to on campus critical or emergency situations.
• Execute duty policies and procedures related to emergencies, mental health intervention and support for residents of University Housing.
• Coordinate the transfer of management responsibilities for critical incidents when response begins during the workday and transitions to duty staff for follow up.
• Assist with the coordination of University Housing\'s bias and intolerance response by enacting educational strategies as a result of complaints filed.

Community Development Responsibilities

• Engage and contribute to a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion within University Housing.
• Provide training for full-time and student staff related to responding to critical incidents, residents in crisis and early identification of concerning behaviors.
• Advise staff on use of student intervention strategies and techniques.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings and professional development.
• Oversee mental health and wellness educational programs and initiatives.
• Create and implement lesson plans to achieve the goals and learning outcomes of the residential curriculum.
• Conduct evaluation and assessment of curricular strategies.
• Educate residents and staff regarding University and Housing policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate self-awareness of social identities, privilege and biases while actively engaged in learning about other cultures, viewpoints and traditions in order to serve a diverse resident population.
• Utilize a wide range of interpersonal skills to build and sustain an inclusive community.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain critical incidents logs for mental health incidents, resident transports and related concerns.
• Serve as University Housing\'s representative on care coor ination teams within Student Affairs and the university.
• Attend Students of Concern, Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), and/or Threat Assessment Team (TAT) meetings as assigned or scheduled.
• Discuss resident situations with University Housing staff involve and communicate concerning resident behaviors.
• Maintain documentation on management of resident case, referrals provided and other elements of care coordination.
• Represent University Housing concerns, resident cases, and interventions staff have executed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education - Required: Master\'s degree

Experience - Required: Three years full-time work experience in crisis intervention, case management, behavioral intervention or coordination of care services. Ability to collaborate within colleagues in multiple areas or offices. Demonstrated ability to work with and respect diverse residents and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Education - Preferred: Master\'s degree in social work, college student personal, or counseling.
