Suny Polytechnic Institute Assistant Director of Facilities - Maintenance and Building Operations Manager in Utica, New York

The Assistant Director of Facilities - Maintenance and Operations Manager will oversee the activities of the building and mechanical trades. This position will plan, organize, and direct activities for breakdown, corrective, and preventative maintenance. The position will also participate in project review meetings, provide input on new construction projects, and will examine the facilities maintenance program for approaches to enhance maintenance workflow and quality.

As an administrative supervisor, this position will provide positive leadership, oversight, and direction to direct reports to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the department and Institution's goals and strategies. The position will establish recordkeeping to estimate annual budgets and report on annual expenditures.

The Assistant Director of Facilities - Maintenance and Operations Manager will also be responsible for other reasonable duties as assigned.

Salary range $68,000 - $78,000

Job Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidate must possess a bachelor's degree in engineering, facilities management, or related field degree from college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization and have five years' supervisory experience with multiple direct reports.

  • Candidate must possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to clearly explain the requirements of the building maintenance program to campus administrators, facilities personnel, students, staff, building contractors, consultants, and construction managers.

  • Must possess and utilize negotiating skills as well as understand conflict resolution methods and techniques.

  • Applicants must possess a valid New York State driver's license and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.

  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical diagrams, logic schematics, and specifications, as well as architectural and mechanical construction drawings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing complete operations and maintenance activities for organizations with multi-building facilities.

  • Higher education and/or SUNY experience.

  • Code enforcement official certification.

  • Knowledge of heating and chiller plant operations, building controls, and HVAC systems.

  • Experience with supervising union employees. Proficiency with computer software including MS Excel and MS Word.
