Job Summary
This position will perform duties necessary to the assembly of Lithium SO2 cells. Operations include winding cell material into jelly roll configuration and inserting into can, placing insulating washers on top shells, attaching top shell to can assembly, crimping top shell to can assembly, welding top shell to can assembly, performing continuity checks when necessary, performing in-line quality checks after each operation, performing simple and complex maintenance, and contributing to team and plant wide activities. Must become certified on all operations within the Dry Room within 12 months, as well as certified on a minimum of one operation in another area. All tasks will be performed while supporting the policies, procedures, goals and objectives of the company.

Responsibilities**
- Employee shall participate in maintaining "6-S" in all areas of the facility, including sweeping, cleaning, organizing, and other related tasks.
- Employee will be expected to perform any other assignments and duties as assigned.
- Work is performed in normal manufacturing environment.
- Winds processed cathode material with anode material into a jelly roll configuration and inserts into can. Winding process is performed on an automatic or manual SO2 winder..
- Performs various material quality checks to ensure proper specifications are being obtained before and during winding process. Performs in-line quality checks after each operation. Makes minor adjustments to winder when necessary. Records inspection information.
- Changes spools of lithium, straightens jammed tab stock and changes separator when needed, insuring proper alignment through machine. In addition, must be able to transport trays of cathode from storage area to the machine.
- Attach top shell subassembly to can subassembly using a welding process (on kaido line, this is done automatically). Crimp top shell subassembly into can subassembly using manually activated or automated crimping equipment. Monitor the welding of the top shell subassembly to can subassembly and make equipment adjustments as needed to ensure weld integrity. Manually re-weld any welding defects.
- Perform continuity checks as required and accurately record all continuity check failures, quality issues, scrap materials. Perform leak testing as required.
- Break down scrap cells, such as hi-pots, as required.
- Certification on Jobs in assigned work area.
- Mental/visual effort required in performing assemblies of batteries requiring close attention to detail.
- Maintain 6S in assigned work area.
Requirements
- Ability to learn to operate a wider variety of equipment.
- Must be able to see and differentiate colors and be able to pass a color blindness test.
- The employee must regularly lift trays of cells/batteries and be able to sit or stand up to 50% of work time depending upon par icular operation.
- Must be capable of a moderate degree of visual acuteness when working with precision equipment requiring close tolerances.
- Must be able to wear safety glasses, goggles, splash shield, chemical suits, and other protective clothing as warranted by the work situation.
- High school education or GED required. Vocational education exposure preferred.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Ability to read, write, and perform simple math.
- Manufacturing Experience is highly desired.
- Must be willing and able to work any assigned shift and to work overtime on weekdays as well as Saturdays and Sundays if required.
- Two to four weeks on the job training necessary to become familiar with job procedures and achieve certification for each job.
