Valparaiso Family YMCA Preschool and Toddler Lead Teacher in Valparaiso, Indiana

POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Ensure the health and safety of all children, while overseeing the creation and delivery of off-site, age-appropriate educational preschool programs. Positively engage with members and families to enhance their experience and their childrens growth at our facility while ensuring the delivery of an age-appropriate educational programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Child Supervision and Responsibilities: Ensure the safety of all children; maintain a high level of confidentiality. Never leave children unsupervised. Create and deliver age-appropriate curriculum, leading staff in interacting with and motivating children. Interact with children in a variety of positive, fun and learning activities. Comfort upset children. Perform opening and/or closing procedures as required and outlined in guidelines. Follow and enforce parent/guardian sign in and sign out procedures. Document attendance. Adhere to work schedule and substitute for other staff as needed.

Other: Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions, including reporting accidents, incidents and hazards. Adhere to policies, rules and regulations, as outlined in employee handbook and other communications. Provide feedback and address concerns in a courteous manner, modeling active listening, reflection and response skills in all interactions. Resolve situations immediately by going above and beyond when opportunity exists. Provide upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment. Accept additional assignments as deemed appropriate, within the scope of the job description. Obtain and maintain required trainings.

Salary: Starting at $14.00 per hour.

JOB REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum age 21 required. Current CDA Credential or an AA Degree in Early Childhood Education or a BS Degree in Elementary Education required. Previous experience in child supervision and education preferred. Previous experience in supervision preferred. Physical ability and stamina to perform the duties as outlined above, including but not limited to extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking; bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
